This Shattered World: Meet the Characters + giveaway

This Shattered World: Meet the Characters + giveaway

If you’re a fan of Tarver and Lilac from These Broken Stars, I don’t even know how to explain how much you’re going to love the new characters in This Shattered World! This companion story set in the same universe follows the awesome Jubilee Chase and the guy she absolutely, positively should not get involved with, Flynn Cormac. And, well…you know how that goes. ;) I thought Tarver was going to be hard to live up to, but Flynn’s going to win you over fast–but not as fast as Jubilee does, because she’s kickass from page 1. I have a serious girl crush on her and I’m not afraid to admit it. There is so much to say about how the Starbound universe has deepened and expanded in this second book, but the characters are a great place to introduce you to this fantastic story. To kick off the official… Read more »

These Broken Stars Tour Kickoff + giveaway: World-building for the Future

Welcome to the official kickoff for the These Broken Stars tour! Our readers know we only host tours for books and authors we are crazy about, and I can tell you that in this case we love both the book (here is Kate’s adoring review) and the authors. I met Amie in person when I was in Australia a year ago, where we bonded over our mutual love of YA scifi and other bookish discussions. Now here’s the thing: I rarely seek out real-life author interactions, particularly before I’ve read the book, because it’s inevitably awkward if I don’t end up liking it. BUT I LOVED IT, you guys. Lilac is that girl you wish you could travel with, because she’s independent and interesting and could fix your spaceship if it’s hit by an asteroid. (Well, maybe not an asteroid, but you know.) And TARVER. Tarver is one of the… Read more »

These Broken Stars: review

These Broken Stars: review

I’ve heard this book described as Titanic in space, and while I suppose that is technically pretty accurate, it really only applies to the first 10% of the story, at which point the crash occurs.  From then on, it’s about two brilliant young people from opposite backgrounds who have to learn to work together to survive alone, marooned on a strange planet that seems to be haunted by the ghosts of their ship’s dead. Lilac is the only child of the wealthiest man in the universe (Which is, by the way, an amount of money that has no comparison in our world.  She’s not Paris Hilton-level rich; her father runs a corporation that essentially controls what goes on on almost every planet.  And he’s single.)  The two of them have been extremely close (not in a creepy way) since the death of her mother, and he’s taught her a great… Read more »
