The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue: Cover Reveal, Excerpt, + Giveaway!

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue: Cover Reveal, Excerpt, + Giveaway!

Today we’re hosting the exclusive cover reveal for The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee! I enjoyed the author’s debut This Monstrous Thing, and I’m a huge fan of her weekly #BygoneBadassBroads storytime on Twitter. She gives back so much to the YA community through education and enthusiasm, so I’m delighted to help unveil her upcoming historical novel. Friends, you are going to want to gaze adoringly into this book’s eyes and buy it dinner. It features pirates and villains and two rascally boys who are lifelong friends, but who are OH, also fighting their growing feelings for each other. *swoon* Mackenzi joins us today to talk about sowing wild oats, tackling historical fiction tropes, and being queer in the 17th century. Watch Mackenzi Lee Introduce The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue As Mackenzi says, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is the… Read more »

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire: Exclusive Cover Reveal + Giveaway

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire: Exclusive Cover Reveal + Giveaway

When Rosamund Hodge asked whether I’d be interested in revealing the cover for her new book Bright Smoke, Cold Fire, I did something I rarely do: I said yes immediately, sight unseen. Because: Her two previous books, Cruel Beauty and Crimson Bound, have been among my favorite YA retellings Both of those covers were gorgeous, and captured the rapturous feeling of her darkly romantic fairy tales Rosamund has written so many fascinating guest posts before. I knew we’d have a treat for our readers, especially having read the synopsis, which says it was inspired by Romeo and Juliet…but with necromancers. (!!!) But oh my stars, I still wasn’t prepared for what she sent. Are you ready to set your eyes upon this vision?     Are you sure?     Just look at this beauty!   The mood of this cover is utterly gorgeous–I love the somber colors contrasted with… Read more »

Poison is Not Polite: exclusive cover reveal + giveaway

Girls solving mysteries is one of my very favorite things! It was great fun for us to host the cover reveal for Robin Stevens’ Murder is Bad Manners last year, so we’re delighted to be hosting her again, this time with the North American cover for the second book in the Wells & Wong series. Daisy and Hazel find themselves in more puzzling predicaments, with the central mystery taking place at a grand old English manor…that just so happens to be Daisy’s home. Poison is Not Polite won’t be released here until next April 2016, but we have your exclusive first look right here and now–along with the opportunity to win one of the very first ARCs hot off the presses. Without further ado–here is the fantastic cover!! It’s wonderful how the designer has changed the color scheme, but you can immediately tell that it’s part of the same series…. Read more »

The Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick: exclusive cover reveal + giveaway

The Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick: exclusive cover reveal + giveaway

I’ve waxed poetic about Marcus Sedgwick many times before. He scared the crap out of me with White Crow, made me think in She is Not Invisible, and moved me impossibly with the dark, moody, brilliant Midwinterblood. I therefore didn’t even ask what the story was about when Macmillan asked if The Midnight Garden would host the U.S. cover reveal for Marcus’ new book, The Ghosts of Heaven. Seriously, his name is on the cover and that’s all I needed to know–I only just read the synopsis as I was formatting this post! I also flew to answer Ksenia‘s email right away, the whole deal was done in 10 minutes flat. Such is my love for him and his stories. He writes such intelligent, beautiful books that I’m excited every time a new one is announced, because I know each Marcus Sedgwick book holds the promise of a transformative reading… Read more »

Murder is Bad Manners: exclusive cover reveal + giveaway

When you hear the words murder + mystery + English boarding school, you’re either the type of reader who is immediately intrigued, or you have no imagination whatsoever are not. And I, my friends, am the type who hops a tiny bit with excitement at those delicious words! What’s even better is when the story is set in the 1930s and features two girls at its center, one of whom is of Asian descent. With the #WeNeedDiverseBooks tag taking over the interwebs recently, it’s nice to be reminded that many authors and publishers have been quietly tending to stories with diverse characters all along. Today, we’re so pleased to be hosting the exclusive cover reveal for Murder is Bad Manners, a cozy middle grade mystery from debut author Robin Stevens. It’s the first book in the Wells & Wong series, which was just published in the UK under the title… Read more »

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda: Exclusive Cover Reveal + giveaway

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda: Exclusive Cover Reveal + giveaway

Sometimes all you need to hear are 10 words to know that you desperately want a book. A few months ago, these were the words I saw on Twitter to describe Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: You’ve Got Mail starring gay teenage boys with good grammar. Doesn’t that sound intriguing? That short description speaks to a certain playfulness, attention to detail, and romantic nature that I find so appealing. Not to mention the fact that it’s a LGBTQ story, which we need to see more of in YA fiction. Today, we’re so pleased to host the exclusive cover reveal for this highly anticipated book. It’ll be out from Balzer + Bray/HarperCollins on April 7th, 2015, and here’s your very first look!   Synopsis Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong… Read more »
