New releases are awesome, but there are so many great classics worth reading, too! Every month, The Midnight Garden hosts a classics discussion of a YA or middle grade book. Everyone is welcome to join whether you’re reading for the first time or revisiting an old favorite! We try to mix up genres, historical periods, settings, and so on.

It’s such a great way to meet new friends, as well as to get insight into the books you’re already familiar with.

*Classics: generally speaking, we’re looking at books published at least 20 years ago, though we also factor in awards, cultural significance, “classics of your heart” (coined by Kim), and so on. We encourage you to participate in discussing at least some of the books we’ve chosen, but not all of your classics selections need to be ours as long as you’ve made a good case as you’ve read/reviewed them throughout the year and are telling us about them. At the very least, please visit and tell us what you’re reading on these posts so we get a sense of your progress–and so we can get book recs from you, too!

Here are the books we’ve discussed in the past:
