YA Authors Read Snarky Reviews

Ever read a review that made you cringe because you loved the book so much? Well, imagine how the author feels! As bloggers, we can’t constantly be thinking about how an author will receive critical observation, or we’d be so crippled by the thought that we’d never say anything at all–which is entirely contrary to the spirit of citizen reviewing. BUT. There are times when things get so snarky that you do feel bad for the undoubtedly lovely person who put pen to paper, especially if you’ve gotten to know the author online. While many writers choose not to read their negative reviews (or just aren’t admitting it), the savvy ones who do, learn to put this stuff into context and try not to take it too much to heart. S.A. Bodeen on Surviving the Apocalypse (plus The Compound & The Fallout giveaway!)

There’s something about a good survivalist story that really gets to me. I love it when characters have to go foraging for food or have to ration out supplies–and I also like seeing how the aftermath of a major disaster can bring out the best and the worst in people.      When I first read The Compound by S.A. Bodeen, my favorite parts of the book were most definitely how the author thought out how Eli’s family dealt with dwindling supplies, and how paranoia and helplessness make them consider unthinkable solutions. With the sequel releasing tomorrow, we invited the author to join us as part of The Fallout’s official blog tour to tell us what she couldn’t live without when the apocalypse comes.
