Introducing Layla and Peyton! + celebration giveaway

Introducing Layla and Peyton! + celebration giveaway

Are you may have heard, I put out a call for applicants for Midnight Garden reviewers last month. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to send us a note of interest! We’re very excited to have two new writers starting soon, which means that hopefully the barren wasteland that you occasionally wandered into on the blog this summer won’t be happening again. There are so many books that deserve attention, and additional reviewers means that we’ll not only be able to review more books, but I will also have more time to devote to features, side projects, and tours. Without further ado–please say hello to Layla and Peyton! We’ve gotten to know Layla this year because she’s a frequent visitor to our blog, and it quickly became apparent that she’s definitely a kindred spirit. We’ve loved her thoughtful observations, open-mindedness, and eclectic reading tastes through many… Read more »

TMG Updates + summer giveaway

TMG Updates + summer giveaway

Hello friends! We have to apologize for being a bit quiet around here recently. Between trips and jobs and such, we’ve been a little busy offline, but we haven’t forgotten you! We have a box of summer-themed books to give away, but first, some Midnight Garden news and updates. Here’s what’s been keeping us busy: Kate and I did a fun podcast with Matt Debenham from What Are You Reading? We chat about balancing our responsibilities as bloggers, sex in YA, middle grade books and movies, and sooo much more. Matt owns a gorgeous house (that used to be a church) on Prince Edward Island as well, so Anne fans can listen to my trying to be cool while internally jumping up and down with excitement. I just got back from Portland, and I can’t wait to share some of the bookish adventures I experienced. Kim has started working in… Read more »

I Spoke Too Soon

I Spoke Too Soon

Okay, after my initial uncertainty about the casting of Jace Wayland, this post by Cassie Clare, plus the linked interview with Hollywood Crush, make me feel a lot better. A lot. As I thought, he tested incredibly well with Lilly Collins, and CC talks about how she cried when she saw his audition tape. And look at this photo! Much better.

Jamie Campbell Bower Cast as Jace Wayland

Jamie Campbell Bower Cast as Jace Wayland

So. What do you think of today’s news announcing that Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast as Jace Wayland in the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments series? Happy with the choice? He’s most well-known for small roles in the Twilight and Harry Potter franchises, so this is a pretty big deal for this young actor. I didn’t really have a horse in this race, but this kind of an unusual choice–he must have tested spectacularly well with Lily Collins, who’s long been confirmed as the lead for Clary. We’ll see how this goes…though I do hope his people get him some better publicity shots to circulate soon!

Clockwork Prince: cover reveal

Clockwork Prince: cover reveal

Eeee! You have to forgive me while I fangirl over the cover for Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Prince, the second book in The Infernal Devices series. It was released this morning at BEA and it features the wonderful Jem in the artwork. The doesn’t come out until December 6 of this year, but in the meantime you can read the prologue online. Between that and all the other teasers that have been sneaked, I’m dying to read it… Here is a link, by the way, to a Clockwork Angel bookmark I made recently which you can download to print at home. Plus a Mortal Instruments and Madeleine L’Engle ones, too!

The Scorpio Races: teaser blurb

The Scorpio Races: teaser blurb

Maggie Stiefvater has been keeping the subject of her fall release tightly under wraps, but Scholastic leaked a bit of information today through their librarian preview and on their website. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Shiver and Linger comes a brand-new, heart-stopping novel. With her trademark lyricism, Maggie Stiefvater turns to a new world, where a pair are swept up in a daring, dangerous race across a cliff–with more than just their lives at stake should they lose. The librarian preview is a little dry (Scholastic, we love you, but there’s a reason why editors usually work behind the scenes…), but the book info starts at the 11:15 mark if you click on the Young Adult preview. You’ll see the author herself talking about the book as well as some of the horse portraits she’s painted over the years. Still not much to go on, but this… Read more »
