Literary Swoon: Our Fictional Crushes!

Literary Swoon: Our Fictional Crushes!

Alright, can we all just gather round, we’re about to have a very serious conversation. Leading men of YA have made us laugh, cry, swoon, drool, hate the utter unfairness of reality. Some of us like bad boys, some good boys, some a healthy mix of both. Some of us like them damaged, some like them adorably innocent. Many of them out there are cliches. They smile from the corner of their lips because they don’t know how to smile properly. But sometimes, some of them are done just right. This year’s Literary Swoon is Favorite Fictional Crushes. We are here today to thoroughly discuss the shiz out of this topic. Yesterday’s post featured some of our favorite authors and their crushes. Today, it is our turn. So sit back and relax. And most definitely enjoy. ~ K.   K.’s Fictional Crushes Jonah Griggs from Jellicoe Road Kartik from the Gemma… Read more »

Literary Swoon: YA Authors Dish on their Fictional Crushes!

Literary Swoon: YA Authors Dish on their Fictional Crushes!

Welcome to our third annual Literary Swoon series! Every year we invite authors we love to chat with us about all kinds of romantic literary subjects, because who better to find feels-inducing books for us than the writers who excel at that themselves? This year we wanted to know: who are their favorite fictional crushes? I personally think the people and characters you’re drawn to say a lot about you, so I loved hearing what this year’s authors had to say. All seven of them wrote fantastic pieces that are so great in helping us add swoon-worthy books to our reading piles. Get those TBR lists ready, because you’re going to want to snap up these books if you haven’t already read them! ~ Wendy       I’m crushing on this fictional character in honor of my teen self, who would’ve died a thousand deaths to save this bad… Read more »

Literary Swoon: The Midnight Garden Bloggers

Happy Valentine’s Day, dear readers! We would like to thank you all for celebrating with us this year’s Literary Swoon series. It’s been a pleasure reading some of our favorite YA authors’ favorite romantic scenes and discussing them with you. Today, we end with our very own personal picks of romantic scenes. We hope they make your hearts beat as fast as they have obviously made ours. Please beware that there will be spoilers.   Now sit back, read, sigh, and enjoy… —————————————— K.’s Favorite Romantic Scene The final paragraphs of Libba Bray’s The Sweet Far Thing is one of the most poignant moments I think I’ve ever read. This series is about growing up, accepting change, claiming your rights and your dreams. It is about self-worth, courage, and love.  I could write an entire post about why reading the closing passage of this book makes me want to move… Read more »

Literary Swoon: Marissa Meyer + Box of Romance giveaway

Hello, and welcome to Day Five of our 2013 Literary Swoon series. Every day we’re asking a different YA author to tell us: what’s your favorite romantic book scene?  Have you been swooning as hard as we have this week? Well, keep those pearls clutched, my darlings; Marissa Meyer, YA sci-fi author of Cinder and Scarlet (not to mention creator of the seriously swoontastic Wolf) is sharing her favorite scene from one of my personal favorites. Caution: here be spoilers! Marissa Meyer’s Favorite Romantic Book There are so many heart-wrenching, uber-romantic moments in YA fiction that it’s hard to choose a favorite, but when asked, I find myself always returning to Fire by Kristin Cashore.  In this book, Fire, the main character, is a “monster,” meaning she’s astoundingly beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that she can manipulate people and animals with her beauty. (If you’ve read my books, you know this… Read more »

If you haven’t picked this one up, you MUST do it immediately–the swoon factor is out of the stratosphere. Sarah graciously shares her favorite romantic scene with us below. Fair warning: spoilers may follow. ———————————————– Sarah Fine’s Favorite Romantic Scene I’m a sucker for complete surrender in a romance, especially when someone powerful is willing to lay him- or herself at the feet of the beloved. For that reason, some of my favorite romantic scenes come from Graceling by Kristin… Read more »

Welcome to Day Two of our 2013 Literary Swoon series! Every day we’ve asked a YA author we love to tell us: what’s your favorite romantic book scene?
