The Story Behind IF YOU FIND ME

The Story Behind IF YOU FIND ME

It’s fun to stay connected and get a sense of an author’s personality online, but I’m always aware that for many industry peeps, it’s a business decision to be on social media. As a result, many posts are often (understandably) limited to their own projects or those of their colleagues. But every once in awhile, you get a glimpse of a truly remarkable person and kindred spirit. I’d had Emily Murdoch’s If You Find Me on my TBR list for awhile, but it was getting to know her through Twitter that convinced me that I’d love the book. From looking at photos of the horses she rescues and seeing her simple, heartfelt tribute to a friend who’d passed on a year ago, I knew there was a deep and genuine soulfulness to this person–and I wanted to see the kind of book that person would produce. My instinct was right…. Read more »

Jane Nickerson on Writing the Macabre + giveaway

Jane Nickerson on Writing the Macabre + giveaway

Today we’re pleased to welcome Jane Nickerson to the blog, author of the YA Bluebeard retelling Strands of Bronze and Gold!    This story begins as a fairy tale: 17-year-old Sophia Petherem is taken under the wing of the mysterious Monsieur Bernard de Cressac, and begins a new life with her guardian at Wyndriven Abbey. However, she gradually begins to realize that things are not quite as idyllic as they seem, and finds herself drawn into a sinister mystery and forbidden romance. Set in 19th century Mississippi, this book has a very southern gothic feel to it, and the ending chapters are quite dark.  As part of the official blog tour, Jane is here to talk about the macabre–and why a nice lady like her likes to read and write about such dastardly things.  ~ Wendy —————————————————- Jane Nickerson Guest Post How can such a nice person… A few years ago,… Read more »

Literary Swoon: Marissa Meyer + Box of Romance giveaway

Hello, and welcome to Day Five of our 2013 Literary Swoon series. Every day we’re asking a different YA author to tell us: what’s your favorite romantic book scene?  Have you been swooning as hard as we have this week? Well, keep those pearls clutched, my darlings; Marissa Meyer, YA sci-fi author of Cinder and Scarlet (not to mention creator of the seriously swoontastic Wolf) is sharing her favorite scene from one of my personal favorites. Caution: here be spoilers! Marissa Meyer’s Favorite Romantic Book There are so many heart-wrenching, uber-romantic moments in YA fiction that it’s hard to choose a favorite, but when asked, I find myself always returning to Fire by Kristin Cashore.  In this book, Fire, the main character, is a “monster,” meaning she’s astoundingly beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that she can manipulate people and animals with her beauty. (If you’ve read my books, you know this… Read more »
