Queen of Shadows Tour: downloadable tattoos + giveaway

Queen of Shadows Tour: downloadable tattoos + giveaway

Welcome to our stop on the official Queen of Shadows blog tour, hosted by the founders of #MaasThirteen! Our love for all things Throne of Glass and Sarah J. Maas is well-documented here at The Midnight Garden, so we were pleased to be asked to participate this year. We’re pretty smug about the many readers we’ve hounded relentlessly into persuaded to read this series, and this latest installment is full of everything you’d expect and more: death-defying action scenes, BADASS WOMEN, insanely cool mythical creatures, and emotional trauma that could rip your heart out. I’ve made some downloadable Queen of Shadows tattoos so you can be reminded of Aelin–and really, what better way to spread love and awareness for the series than to wear its words on your body? Download Free Queen of Shadows Tattoos! The set includes all the tattoos shown above, and there are two sets on the page… Read more »

Make Your Own Book-Inspired Tattoos + Free Winner’s Trilogy download

Make Your Own Book-Inspired Tattoos + Free Winner’s Trilogy download

Today we have a special Valentine’s week treat for you! We’re pretty big fans of temporary tattoos here at The Midnight Garden, so why not make your own and wear your favorite book quote? There aren’t nearly enough YA book products out there, and this is an easy and inexpensive way to get exactly what you want. Today I’m sharing a tutorial for creating your own temporary tattoos using quotes from a favorite book, in this case, the lovely, torturous The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski–so perfect and swooningly romantic for this week! This DIY project is super easy to do, and they make fun little gifts for your favorite reader, too. You could even make a little tattoo kit for someone using designs you printed–pack them up into a little glassine envelope with a printed label and they’ll be such a nice present. "Young Adult" Lit Art Show, Los Angeles

"Young Adult" Lit Art Show, Los Angeles

“Jessica & Elizabeth” by Kiersten Essenpreis Today we did a little gallery-hopping around Los Angeles! The first stop was at the “Young Adult” Lit Art Show presented by Hello Giggles and Gallery 1988 Melrose. I enjoyed looking through the fun exhibit, which featured work created by female artists inspired by YA literature from the 80s and 90s. Young adult books have inspired quite a few crafts and products, as a quick search through Etsy or Hot Topic will attest. It’s more unusual to see fine art inspired by the genre, however, and even more unusual to see a dedicated public exhibition. Cheers to the founders of Hello Giggles (actress Zooey Deschanel among them) for their efforts to showcase this offbeat show. Even though the definition of “young adult”was used pretty loosely here (Babysitters Club is textbook middle grade), even though I wish there had been more variety in the subjects… Read more »

Preloved Review & Pink Sugared Popcorn!

Preloved Review & Pink Sugared Popcorn!

Preloved by Shirley Marr I had a horrible sensation in my stomach only because, like, a billion things could go wrong when you try to tell a girl that her Eighties-flavoured boyfriend from a past life was trying to hook back up with her.Preloved is the story of 16-year-old Amy Lee, a girl who lives in the fictional Australian town of Middlemore with her Chinese mother. On her school’s Eighties Theme Day, she’s dressed up as Buttercup from The Princess Bride and battling her love/hate relationship with her best friend Rebecca when she accidentally stumbles upon a silver locket with a picture of a boy from the 80s inside. Her life gets complicated when the boy’s ghost appears and begins to haunt her–but not for the usual reasons you might expect. First of all, Logan wears his collar popped. And he’s persistent. And he’s annoying. But as Amy grows closer… Read more »
