A Conversation with Leigh Bardugo + Siege and Storm Giveaway!

A Conversation with Leigh Bardugo + Siege and Storm Giveaway!

Our readers know all three of us are big fans of the Grisha trilogy here at The Midnight Garden. If you read K’s Siege and Storm review yesterday, you know you’re in for a thrill of a ride when the book is released next month!     We had the opportunity to sit down with author Leigh Bardugo recently to chat about her novels. Since the books are influenced by Russian culture, we thought it’d be fun to meet up for drinks at a vodka bar here in Los Angeles!  Here’s a recounting and paraphrased transcript of the highly giggly conversation below.  ~ Wendy and Tonya     A Conversation with Leigh Bardugo Wendy: Peeps, I just want you to know that when Leigh breezed through the doorway, I nearly didn’t recognize her because she did NOT show up in a fur hat with a jeweled walking stick.    … Read more »

Arclight Author Josin McQuein on the Origins of Her Unusual SciFi Thriller

Arclight Author Josin McQuein on the Origins of Her Unusual SciFi Thriller

As our readers probably know, Tonya and I both really enjoyed Arclight by Josin L. McQuein. (Read the blog review here!)  This scifi thriller is unusual because it combines traditional elements of the genre with a mood that sometimes veers a little closer to horror, which makes a fantastic combination. With the book just released in stores, and with the recent announcement that it’s been optioned by Imagine Entertainment for a film, we’re excited to have the author with us today chatting about the origins of her story. Josin has been a great friend to our blog, so please help us give her a warm welcome! ~ Wendy ———————————————– What is ARCLIGHT? by Josin L. McQuein I get that question a lot. The blurb on the back of the book is pretty open, and can be interpreted a dozen different ways. It’s an unusual mash-up of genres, but to really… Read more »

Rebecca Lim on Embracing the Flawed Heroine + Exile Giveaway!

Rebecca Lim on Embracing the Flawed Heroine + Exile Giveaway!

If you’re suffering from angel withdrawals now that the Unearthly series has ended, might I suggest the Mercy series by Australian author Rebecca Lim? It’s definitely among the more thoughtful angel books that I’ve read, and has a most unusual premise: Mercy has no memory of her life before, and wakes up in different human bodies that she must help.  One of the things I find unusual and fascinating about this series is the way Mercy hands out punishment to the wicked with such terrible justice. With the U.S. release of the second book Exile releasing this month, we’ve invited the author to share her experience in writing about divine beings who aren’t necessarily perfect. ~ Wendy ———————————————– Embracing the Flawed Heroine by Rebecca Lim It’s been tricky, writing about angels. Questions of faith and religion are intensely personal and when your heroine is a fallen angel, you need to… Read more »

The Story Behind IF YOU FIND ME

The Story Behind IF YOU FIND ME

It’s fun to stay connected and get a sense of an author’s personality online, but I’m always aware that for many industry peeps, it’s a business decision to be on social media. As a result, many posts are often (understandably) limited to their own projects or those of their colleagues. But every once in awhile, you get a glimpse of a truly remarkable person and kindred spirit. I’d had Emily Murdoch’s If You Find Me on my TBR list for awhile, but it was getting to know her through Twitter that convinced me that I’d love the book. From looking at photos of the horses she rescues and seeing her simple, heartfelt tribute to a friend who’d passed on a year ago, I knew there was a deep and genuine soulfulness to this person–and I wanted to see the kind of book that person would produce. My instinct was right…. Read more »

Q & A with Midwinterblood Author Marcus Sedgwick

Q & A with Midwinterblood Author Marcus Sedgwick

We’re very pleased to be kicking off the official blog tour today for Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick! From our rave review, you already know that the book is full of dark romance, mystery, and beauty, as well as moments that may send a quiet chill up your spine. As we were poking around doing research, however, we were somewhat surprised to find that Marcus actually does NOT write in a grim, dark cave with a single burning candle and he actually does NOT roam the English countryside wrapped up in long black cloaks. (I know, our jaws dropped, too.) Read on for a delightful conversation with one of the most fascinating guests we’ve ever had at The Midnight Garden. Many of your books are so dark, and the relationships so intense, yet your online personacomes across as very humorous and sunny. Do you need to put yourself in a certain… Read more »

Boundless Tour Stop: Cynthia Hand Interview & Giveaway!

Our readers know that The Midnight Garden reviewers are adults, and yet some authors are so amazing, they reduce us to a pile of giggling fangirls. Tell the truth–do you muscle in line at the Barnes & Noble? Ha! I wish! Seriously, the biggest thing that changed with me hitting the Times list is that I get asked for a lot more blurbs these days. Which means more free books. Which is a very good thing. Clara’s friendship with Angela is tested in… Read more »
