Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This week, the theme is “Top Ten Author Duos I’d Love to See Write a Book Together” and we’re happy to be participating!

Let me note here that I’m only going to do five author duos because, um, this is a hard one, you all. I also apologize in advance because I think these might be verrrrry specific to my interests, which is to say, they get a little odd towards the end.

  1. Rachel Hartman and Naomi Novik. Ok, so basically what I want from this pairing is fanfic, so get ready, world. All I’m asking for is a short story where the Temeraire dragons meet up with the dragons from Shadow Scale and, like, talk about dragon stuff. (War. Humans. What it’s like to be dragons, I don’t know! I’m not very creative.)
  2. Courtney Milan and Ruthie Knox. I have no idea what they would create together, but they are my two favorite romance writers so I assume anything they cowrote would be amazing. Please write a contemporary romance about ladies finding love with feminist dudes? With lots of banter, and preferably, nerds.ttt13p2
  3. Mira Grant and M.R. Carey could write a book together and it would be the single most horrifying book I’ve ever read.
  4. Ron Chernow and Diana Gabaldon. OK HEAR ME OUT. I want a novel about Alexander Hamilton that is kind of sci-fi/romance. (I am open to many potential pairings, here. Founding fathers slash fic between Hamilton/Burr? Okay. Philip Hamilton/Theodosia Burr romance? Whatevs! What will it be like as sci-fi? I don’t know, dude, maybe he travels through time and writes lots of angry essays about 21st century American politics.) Anyhow, I think Diana Gabaldon would be a good candidate for this, because she’s already written in the right time period and Outlander is a good example of the kind of genre I’d like this to be. I realize that this is trippy and that I am the only person who would enjoy this book but so be it. (Again, feel free to write fanfic for me, and yes, I’m still on a Hamilton musical kick, and that’s why I want this thing.)ttt13p3
  5. Louisa May Alcott and Anne Rice. I want them to collaborate on a version of Little Women that is pretty much the same except they’re vampires (and Jo in particular bites Amy to death). This should remove much of the sadness I experience when reading Little Women, ’cause, guess what? I won’t have to be sad when Beth dies; they’re all already undead. (Except Amy. Because she is bitten to death after she burns Jo’s precious manuscript) Anyway. Beth lives forever; she and Jo have lots of adventures, and Jo writes what she knows; that is to say, all of Jo’s gothic stories are based upon her (eternal) life as a vampire in 19th century America. Anne Rice, are you up for this?

BONUS: Someone write a version of Mansfield Park where they’re all dinosaurs. Mary Crawford in particular (clever girl!) is a raptor. What to call it, what to call it …

Yay :D Awesome post Layla. <3 Love reading why you want these authors to write together :) Hugs. <3 Only read two of these authors, though. Rachel Hartman. <3 Whom I adore. But ugh. I don't agree with her and Uprooted, lol :D As I hated that book. But love that you loved them both :D WAAAAIT. I was wrong :D You didn't talk about Uprooted, lol. Sorry about that :D Then I have only read one author ;p Curious about those other books now, though :) Aaaanyway. Thank you for sharing. <3

I honestly suffered through Mansfield Park, but I do want to see a dino remake. HA, that would improve the story greatly for me. Also, Rachel Hartman and Naomi Novik sounds like such a good idea, and I haven’t even read the Temeraire series yet. I should probably go do that.

So… I have a sad..Wanna know why? BECAUSE I DIDN’T KNOW ANY OF THESE AUTHORS. :( Well, maybe one but I still feel bad. I need to get out of my reading box. :( Nether less, I still enjoyed seeing your choices for author duo pair ups and know they would be epical! <3

Yes! I mean, I don’t have super specific ideas for this. But I mostly want dragons being kind of snarky to and dismissive of each other. I’ve read … I think the first four Temeraire books? So I’m way behind there. But someday!

LITTLE WOMEN VAMPIRES. You know your heart wants this thing! I mean, I’m totally happy other people want Amy to get bitten to death, too. Because she is the worst AND YET she gets to be super happy and fall in love and go to Europe even though JO should have gone. And she gets Teddy! The unfairness of it all really gets to me. So … in my version … she’ll get bitten to death. And Jo can go to Europe whenever she wants because hello, she’s a vampire, she literally has all the time in the world.

I am in ABSOLUTE agreement with #1. That would be sooo fantastic. Basically I think every book of ever should have dragons in it (okay, shhh I know this is unrealistic) or at least there should be some more around!! I LOVE DRAGONS. I think I’m going to reread Seraphina soon because it’s just about the best dragon book of ever. :’)

Did you ever read Patricia C. Wrede’s YA fantasy series about dragons? (The Enchanted Forest series is I think its proper name.) There are lots of dragons there! I’d also rec (as I rec’d lower in this thread) Jo Walton’s “Tooth and Claw” which is basically a nineteenth-century novel (modeled after Trollope) but with dragons.

I really did love “Seraphina” so you are not alone in this. :)

Actually, you are not the only one who would be interested in reading book by Ron Chernow & Diana Gabaldon :) First of all, I am fascinated by the time period in which Alexander Hamilton lived. Secondly, I would read anything by Mrs. Gabaldon.
Anyway, I would love to see book by Susan Ee & Pierce Brown. I have a feeling that such cooperation would be brutal :)

Hahaha, I love your list! First of all, have some points for mentioning Mira Grant who is amazing, and if Mansfield Park has dinosaurs in it I’d read the hell out of it. I think a combined story between Rachel Hartman and Naomi Novik would be really cool, too. :)
