Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This week, the theme is “Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases for the Rest of 2015” and zomg it was so, so hard to choose just ten!!
Contemporaries I’ve Been Eyeing
Guyliner by J. Leigh Bailey
I was just telling Layla at BEA that I am in desperate need of a YA romance about two guys having a bromance and then falling tenderly (and unexpectedly) in love. It looks like Guyliner is here to fulfill that need for me. Give me all of the unexpected (b)romances. ALL OF THEM.
First & Then by Emma Mills
A contemporary re-telling of Pride & Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights? Good lord, give me a time machine so that I might travel to this book. I expect many swoons and many squeals of delight. Don’t let me down, book. Also, I know I shouldn’t be influenced by covers but there’s something about this one that is adorable and makes me want to squish this book.
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
I am super jazzed for this epistolary debut about a “girl in the bubble” who strikes up an unlikely romance with the boy next door. I love epistolary novels and am a sucker for any sort of forbidden love. Also, this is Wendy’s favorite book of 2015 (so far) and that should tell you pretty much everything you need to know about how great this book is bound to be. (You can win a copy from us, btw!)
New Genre Fiction to Look Out For
The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow
I sneaked a peak at the first chapter of this dystopian and I was already really digging it. Also, the heroine might be “evil” leader of a definitely evil dystopian country. Also, also the love interest appears to be a hostage to her country. You remember what I said about forbidden love above? Yes. I also lovvvvve when the love is forbidden because the characters are on enemy sides of a war. Gimme.
Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett
I saw this one described somewhere as a “horror romance” which, yes please. Give me it immediately. The description on Goodreads also promises gruesome deaths (yes, always yes to that) and a “forbidden boy” which, as you’ve been learning as you read this post, is an automatic YES. Give me the creepy, give me the gory, and give me my swoons.
Madly by Amy Alward
Pretty much the only thing I really needed to know about this book was that Sarah J. Maas has blurbed it. It looks cute and fun as all get out. The heroine is on a quest to save the princess (yay ladies saving ladies!) who has accidentally potioned herself into falling in love with her own reflection. Along the way it looks as though Sam will be battling growing feelings for a nemesis and rival so you know I am going to be all over this one.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
I basically expect every inch of this book to be wicked and delicious and just dripping with intrigue, magic, and heartbreak. I also really can’t wait to get whatever scrap of news about Alina, Mal, and Nikolai that Leigh might bestow upon us!
The Immortal Heights by Sherry Thomas
Aw, I just adore this sweet little fantasy series about a cross dressing bad-ass lady and the doomed prince that she loves. I love the (sometimes) boarding school setting, but it’s also super enjoyable when the novel branches out into the fantasy realms. Certain revelations at the end of Book 2 guarantee that this one will pretty much be a nail biter. I don’t want this series to end!
Ancillary Mercy by Ann Leckie
This is another series ender in 2015 and I can’t believe it because the scope of this story is so epic and gargantuan. This is super smart sci-fi that challenges our contemporary concept of gender at every turn. It’s also about a sentient space ship consciousness that’s been trapped in a human body. The first installment won the 2014 Hugo for Best Novel and it was well deserved. You should be reading this series.
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
I’m sure this one needs no introduction. It’s embarrassing how badly I need this book. I’m suppressing my all caps mode but I might lose the battle. I just need more wyverns, and Aelin being incredible, and creepy, dark evil things, and please for the love of god, Sarah, have mercy on us and give us a Chaelin reunion. And lots of steamy please. It really isn’t so much to ask!
Bonus (because I can’t help myself):
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
So technically this is a 2016 release but it comes out the very first week of January and that is practically still 2015. Basically what I know about this is that it was written by Susan, it is an epic fantasy novel, and it features a badass friendship between two ladies. From that alone the want is SO HIGH. I was lucky enough to get a copy at BEA and its presence torments me daily. “Read me, Kim!” “But then you would be over, Truthwitch, and I’m just not ready for that yet.”
So those are the books I covet most for the rest of the year! Do we share anything on this list? Have I missed anything that desperately needs to be on here? Have you read any of these already and have a verdict for me? Let me know!
