daughter of deep silenceToday, we’re kicking off the official blog tour for Carrie Ryan’s new book The Daughter of Deep Silence! I enjoyed the author’s zombie series The Forest of Hands and Teeth, so I was glad to see her returning to YA after launching her middle grade series.

We have downloadable quotes from the book (just link back to us, please!), a giveaway, and a mini review to share with you today.

vine-divider-finalThis is the story of girl who lost everything she had–her family, her love, and her very identity. Frances is a survivor of a devastating attack on a ship at sea in which her best friend and family were killed. When she’s finally rescued, she discovers that the only two other survivors of the attack are her boyfriend Grey and his father, Senator Wells. But to her horror, they claim that the ship capsized because of a rogue wave–a mere accident, not an act of violence. Why are they lying? How can she stop them? In the aftermath, Frances goes to live with her friend’s father, and with his help, decides to assume her identity. She’s now Elizabeth “Libby” O’Martin–and she won’t rest until she has her finds justice for those she loved.

Revenge is best served cold–isn’t that the saying? In this new book, Carrie Ryan creates a darkly soapy YA thriller that hooked me from the very first page. There are two reasons I think this one stands out:

Frances is calculating, strong-willed, and determined to see her plan through. This is a girl who commits to her vengeance, and her drive to find answers and see that the truth comes out has the kind of single-mindedness that is admirable. She never forgets her mission, even when she has to sort out her complicated feelings for the two boys she has to deal with.

— The author puts you into Frances’ mindset in a totally convincing way. Whether she’s cold and dark and alone on the ship or struggling with her conscience as things start to spiral out of control, you’re always thinking things through with Frances and experiencing her anger and doubt.

While the story gets a little dramatic, with conspiracies unveiled and explosive events towards the end, that’s part of the fun of revenge fantasies, right? I sped through this book in a couple of sittings, and I bet if you like thrillers, you will, too.

daughter of deep silenceDaughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan

I’m the daughter of murdered parents.
I’m the friend of a dead girl.
I’m the lover of my enemy.
And I will have my revenge.

In the wake of the devastating destruction of the luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace knows the terrifying truth, and she’ll stop at nothing to avenge the murders of everyone she held dear. Even if it means taking down the boy she loves and possibly losing herself in the process.

Sharp and incisive, Daughter of Deep Silence by bestselling author Carrie Ryan is a deliciously smart revenge thriller that examines perceptions of identity, love, and the lengths to which one girl is willing to go when she thinks she has nothing to lose.

Daughter of Deep Silence will be out next week online and in stores everywhere on May 26th, 2015.

The unreliable narrator aspect is a big pull for me. Also, I read the excerpt and it is so intriguing. I need to know what next! 19 pages wasn’t nearly enough

YAY! I am such a huge fan of her “The Forest of Hands and Teeth” series, so I’m really excited to read this one!

I would like to win this one because I love books with somewhat unlikable yet totally fierce protagonists! Also, I had mixed feelings about Carrie Ryan’s earlier series, so I would appreciate the chance to give her writing another shot. Also, Wendy, on a stylistic note, you and the other MTG bloggers format your posts so well: this one has a wonderful balance of text, color, images, quotes, etc. :)

I’ve been looking forward to this book for so long. I loved The Forest of Hands and Teeth and the time between then and now has seemed like such a long time. I’m so glad Carrie has a new YA out and that the tour she’ll be on this summer is coming close to my hometown. Can’t wait to meet her!

Best revenge: Well, it seem cruel now but when I was younger I had made pop tarts and milk for breakfast… I got up left my stuff there and went to the bathroom. When I returned and finished my breakfast and they started laughing. My brother had backwashed my milk and my dad licked the pop tart :( I in return stuck their toothbrushes in the toilet and put them back. Several days later I told them…
Why I want to read this :) Well I have heard amazing things and of course the cover calls to me so it’s a must have! Thank you for the chance!

I am excited to read this book because I have heard great things about the author and I love a mystery encapsulated book (one where the reader has a mystery to figure out and not the main character)

This book reminds me of the TV show Revenge! Which I loved and I know I will love this book. I love reading books about revenge.

I’ve never read Carrie Ryan, but I’m curious about this. The only revenge book I think I truly enjoyed was The Count of Monte Cristo. I recently read Those Girls by Lauren Saft and just didn’t like it at all. But your comments make me hopeful that this could be different! :)

I WANT THIS BOOK SO BADLY YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. It’s been on my wishlist ever since they cover Carrie Ryan announced this novel. The premise just sounds so enticing and promising. Quite frankly, this is my most anticipated book of 2015. The quotes you’ve included in this post sound so amazing, I’ve always adored and been in awe of Ryan’s writing. I wish I could enter this giveaway 989080 times over haha, so glad it’s open to us Canadians.

I honestly don’t recall ever reading a “darkly soapy YA thriller” before, and can’t wait to experience this one myself. It’s honestly a recipe for success in my eyes. Frances seems like such an complex character, and I can’t wait to read this one and learn about her motivations and just see everything start to spiral out of control.

Lovely mini-review Wendy, it made me even more pumped for the release of this novel.
