Endsinger: cover reveal + giveaway question

May 16, 2014 2014, cover reveal, fantasy, jay kristoff, Wendy 45

Ah, monkey children, you’re in for a treat today!

Today we’re participating in Jay Kristoff’s cover reveal for the final book in his epic feudal Japan-inspired steampunk fantasy series The Lotus Wars. I’m a huge fan of both the books and the affable author (here’s my Stormdancer review and our hilarious interview with Buruu), so we’re excited to help unveil the fantastic artwork for Endsinger, which will be released in September 2014.

Are you ready?

Are you as excited as we are?

Prepare to try to climb into your computer screens to get a closer look, because this beauty is GORGEOUS.

Ahhhh! Do you see the cuts on Yukiko’s determined face and the blood on her hands? What is this epic land-sky battle we see in the distance? WANT WANT WANT, I WANTS IT NOW.

This goes so well with the stunning artwork of the previous two novels, but I think this one might be my favorite.

The flames of civil war sweep across the Shima Imperium. With their plans to renew the Kazumitsu dynasty foiled, the Lotus Guild unleash their deadliest creation—a mechanical goliath known as the Earthcrusher, intended to unite the shattered Empire under a yoke of fear. With the Tiger Clan and their puppet Daimyo Hiro in tow, the Guild marches toward a battle for absolute dominion over the Isles.

Yukiko and Buruu are forced to take leadership of the Kagé rebellion, gathering new allies and old friends in an effort to unite the country against the chi-mongers. But the ghosts of Buruu’s past stand between them and the army they need, and Kin’s betrayal has destroyed all trust among their allies. When a new foe joins the war tearing the Imperium apart, it will be all the pair can do to muster the strength to fight, let alone win.

The traitor Kin walks the halls of Guild power, his destiny only a bloody knife-stroke away. Hana and Yoshi struggle to find their place in a world now looking to them as heroes. Secret cabals within the Lotus Guild claw and struggle; one toward darkness, the other toward light. And as the earth splits asunder, as armies destroy each other for rule over an empire of lifeless ash and the final secret about blood lotus is revealed, the people of Shima will learn one last, horrifying truth.

There is nothing a mother won’t do to keep her children by her side.

Endsinger, the final book in the Lotus War series, will be released on September 14, 2014.

So, what do you think, friends? Are you as jazzed about this cover as we are? I can’t wait to find out what happens in this conclusion–the only thing I know is that it’s sure to tear our hearts out.

That cover looks mighty awesome. I kind of wish this were a manga/comic book instead because it looks so fitting as one, too! The girl is oozing with sass and kick-assery, like there’s already action flying from the drawings. Obviously, I really need to get this one soon (I haven’t read it yet huhuhu) as I love anything Japanese.

I still haven’t started this series, Wendy, but the books have such pretty covers and the MC always looks so kick-ass. I may just wait until the release of this one – September seems so far away right now but time just flies – and then read them all together to avoid forgetting details.

What a beautiful cover! I haven’t had a chance to read this series yet but have loved all of the covers. I am glad that the final cover is just as gorgeous as the other two and I can’t wait to read this series finally.

I hadn’t heard of Jay Kristoff until a few weeks ago, think Kat was calling him something or other, might have involved kidnapping, I’m not entirely sure. These look unreal, that cover truly is spectacular. I’ve heard of Stormdancer, so I really need to start paying more attention to authors. Aussie author? Yep, will be grabbing the series asap. Thanks for sharing.

That cover is so freaking beautiful! I’ve yet to read Kinslayer because I don’t want to wait too long before I can read Endsinger but I might just succumb and read it right now.

    I love me some Buruu.

    • Wendy Darling

Well, either way, it’s good you won’t have to wait as long for the finale as the rest of us! You might need a bit of recovery time, though, between books–I always feel like I’ve been wrung out at the end of each one, hah. So engrossing, but they take a lot of thought and time and emotional energy.

I <3 Buruu, too. Um...I almost said something spoilery here, but then I remembered you haven't read KINSLAYER yet. ;)

    • Wendy Darling

Oh man, Buruu fan art, please! That would be fantastic, I hope you plan on featuring them on your blog.

This cover art is so exciting. I wonder if we’ve seen other work by this person? We need to, if not…

    • Wendy Darling

Ooo, the previous two are at Book Outlet? I need to think about who I should gift them to! Thanks for the tip, Pili. I could stare at this cover all day. (And yeah, I like the Aus covers too, but not as much as the U.S. ones.)

Oh, how I love this cover. <33 Thank you for sharing Wendy :D I am also DYINGDYINGDYING for this book! I cannot wait :D Also, I ship Yukiko and Kin so hard, hih. I need them together. <3 Sigh. Anyway. I also blogged about the cover today :) But so sad that I wasn't invited to this contest quiz :( is jealous, hih. <3 :)

It’s fantastic, isn’t it? I’m so excited that everyone can dance around like crazy people to celebrate it! I can’t wait to find out what happens. This will be epic.

And aw, I know the quiz thing was limited, but it was nice of you to do the cover reveal anyway. That amazing cover is too good not to share.

  7. Savannah

Going to be honest and say the cover looks great. But unfortunately when I read the book it was not for me. I found it very hard to get into.

The writing style probably isn’t for everybody, Savy, so I totally understand your feelings–and you’re not the only person who had a hard time getting into it. I was just saying to Jessica below that I think you either a huge fan of the series or you’re not, but I feel like some of the best books are the most polarizing ones anyway, you know? And there’s room for all tastes!

And oh, you read FANGIRL! I’ll have to check out your review, I was surprised by how much I ended up liking that book.

    • Wendy Darling

Oh yes, it’s the perfect time to start! It is a love it or hate it series, I think, but it’s definitely a love for me. :)

  8. Janice

I’ve never heard of this series before but that cover ALONE makes me want to read it. And it made me curious as to what the other covers look like. I love them and totally putting these books on my list. I am totally judging a book by its cover here but it seems like it’ll be worth it!
Janice recently posted…Has this ever happened to you?

    • Wendy Darling

Aw, I totally should have linked the other covers, too! But if you search “Jay Kristoff” on our site, the others will come up. They’ll all look beautiful on a shelf together.

This is one case where the content matches the covers really well. I will say that his style of writing is very classic old school epic fantasy, so it took me about 150 pages to really get sucked into the first one. But if you can be patient, the books are gorgeous. Full of action and feeling.

    • Wendy Darling

Ooo, you must read it before book three is out! And yeah, this yellow wouldn’t normally be my favorite, but the images are so striking and fierce, it catapulted to the very top for me, too. The designer did a great job! But I bet Jay had soooome feedback/say in it too, given his art director background. I cannot imagine he didn’t weigh in on it in some capacity, they’re just perfect. Or maybe he just got really, really lucky.

    • Wendy Darling

Hah hah, some of those choices made me go <.< . It's nice that he isn't making this too too hard on peeps who enter, though.

    • Wendy Darling

Isn’t it beeeyoutiful? I gasped when Jay sent it through. I’m actually kind of glad we have a few months before it lands, both so you have a chance to read KINSLAYER and so I have a chance to mentally prepare myself. I have the feeling there will be lots of blood and tears.

    • Wendy Darling

He’s an Aussie, it’s practically your duty to at least give them a try!

The covers are quite indicative of the content: sweeping, action-packed, beautiful.
