If you could buy just one book this year, The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey should be at the top of your list. I’m just going to say it: this book could very well be the next Hunger Games! I’ve never seen a book more likely to be a crowd-pleaser, nor one with more potential to sweep away a legion of fans. This book was so crazily addictive that I read it in literally half a day, and several months afterwards I am still jazzed over its edge-of-your-seat action.

On the surface, you’ve seen this story before: post-apocalyptic survival story, a butt-kicking girl separated from a loved one, and boys who can’t always be trusted. Aliens have taken over the planet, with massive, widespread attacks in various different forms, including electromagnetic impulses and pestilence. 17-year-old Cassie is doing everything she can to survive in a world she no longer recognizes, and she’s dead set on finding the little brother that was taken away from her.

What makes this story awesome, and elevates it above many other action-oriented novels, is really the writing–taut plotting, a strong narrative voice, snarky humor, and a masterful feeling of grim tension that can only be relieved if you turn the pages fast enough.

I am a shark who dreamed he was a man…

Things I love: Cassie is a sarcastic, flawed heroine determined to keep her promise. Evan and Ben are both intriguing male leads. A well-constructed story with interesting disaster scenarios and insidious enemies. There are believable successful multiple female/male POVs, as well as a less common setting, in Cincinnati, Ohio. A handful of brief but fantastically chilling scenes. The succinct writing style suits this type of story, but it’s also descriptive and touched with occasional beauty.

A few quibbles: The scenes from Sammy’s POV didn’t really do much for me, and the romantic parts could have been more complex. (That kiss happened way too soon, Mr. Yancey. But I forgive you because Cassie knows it, too.)

The twists also aren’t entirely unexpected, but they are so well done it won’t even matter. My hope is that the sequels will ratchet up the tension, raise the stakes, show us MORE ALIENS, and will more deeply explore these characters. I’d also love it if the terror and horror are intensified, with the kind of subtle creepiness we see in the prologue. But really, who wouldn’t be terrified seeing something like this zipping across the sky chasing after you?

We watched the night sky. The mothership would stare down at us, a pale green malevolent eye.

Download the first 54 pages of the book and prepare to get hooked on the next big YA novel. Strongly recommended for fans of Angelfall, Partials, and other smart post-apocalyptic/dystopian YA books featuring strong heroines.

Of all the would-be successors to the phenomenon that is The Hunger Games, this is the first one I’ve seen that truly has the potential to be a worthy heir to the YA throne. Reading this book was an exciting experience in and of itself, and it’s going to be even more exciting to watch people go nuts as they discover this series.

This review also appears on GoodReads. An advance copy was provided by the publisher.

I just started reading this book, and I’m liking it, through it is slow in places. I’ve looked on Goodreads, and there are quite a few bad ratings on there, but you’ve given me hope. I trust you :)

  2. .Ambur.

I want to read The 5th Wave because it sounds amazing. The story sounds unique and from the samples I’ve read, the writing is wonderful, too. Plus, I’ve yet to read a review that didn’t make me want to read it even more. :p

  3. bookshelffantasies.com

I’ve actually just read the book — but it was a borrowed copy, and I loved it so much I want one of my own! Plus, if I had the book, then I could start lending it to my friends too. :)

  4. Neil Harding

I must admit when I see a book billed as a “the next ” I get a little skeptical. But I will say I’m also intrigued as I did really enjoy all three books I’ve seen this one compared to (Hunger Games, The Passage, and Ender’s Game)

  5. CC

As a middle school librarian I try to read a lot of YA from many genres….but inevitably I get stuck in dystopian cause i love it! So bring on the 5th wave. I am excited.

  6. iLuvReadingTooMuch

One of my friends has been BEGGING me to read this, and she’s one who usually doesn’t like dystopians, etc. So that must mean that this one was beyond amazing! Thanks for the amazing giveaway :D

As a side note, that looks like the eyeball from the Blue Man Group show. I just saw them a few weeks ago in Vegas.

  8. Book Wookie

Holy crap! This is a popular post I see!

Anyhow, I’ve seen rave reviews about The 5th Wave for weeks now. I’ve been wanting to start it but I’ve forced myself to finish up what I’m already reading and meet other commitments. It’s been difficult. I’ll be visiting my book store soon though if I don’t win a copy. :)

  9. Angie

I love flawed protagonists and I feel like there needs to be more of them in the world. Because of that, I cannot wait to read 5th Wave. These days, so many protagonists are so perfect that it’s totally zombie-ish.

  10. Jennifer Fischetto

I keep coming across great reviews for this book. I’ve read the first few pages on Amazon, and I can’t wait to get my hands on this story. Who doesn’t like aliens? ;)

The other day, my best friend and I took our weekly trip to Barnes and Noble. Once a week, we venture to B&N, scoop up an armful of books that catch our eye, and hang out in the cafe, reading each book’s first chapter to get a taste of the story and the writing. Depending on our money statuses (we are both poor college students, after all) we buy whichever books we think we’ll enjoy. Regretfully, I am unemployed until I start my next job June 10, but after reading the first chapter of The 5th Wave, I am beyond eager to get my hands on this book. Within its pages lives the kind of adventure that will demand your attention until its conclusion. I cannot wait to read it!

  16. Daniel Mauvais

Everyone I know is talking about this book, so I can’t wait to get my hands on it! I’ve read the excerpt more times than I can remember!

As if the Blurb wasn’t enticing enough, the trailers had me not only fiending for the book but also hoping for a movie *crosses finger* and then there are all these rave reviews. The characters, the plot, and the world building all seem so amazing from what I’ve seen and read so far.

  20. Ryan91

  24. AndThenTheyDied

I’m excited to read this because even though you admit that there are some parts that could improve, you’re raving about this book, which is the true mark of an excellent book, I believe. Also, ALIENS AND PARANOIA AND A SARCASTIC PROTAGONIST! (The fact that she knows that ‘the kiss’ happens too soon doesn’t hurt either.) Thanks for the giveaway!

The premise sounds interesting and I’m a sucker for that kind of books.
Let’s just hope that the main character isn’t Mary Sue. Oh, I gotta go…alien invasion is happening as I write this. Oh, crap! They are coming into my room. Where is my rifle?

  31. Jay Elle

Thanks so much for your giveaway! this book is getting a lot of hype since it’s just recently been released and sounds like something I’d love :)

  35. Christine K.

I’ve heard so much praise for this book, and the fact that you said it had “taut plotting, a strong narrative voice, snarky humor, and a masterful feeling of grim tension that can only be relieved if you turn the pages fast enough” and recommended it to fans of Angelfall just sealed the deal. Thanks for the chance to win, and great review!

  36. Michelle

Wow. Fab review! You’ve certainly got me excited to read this. Although Hunger Games comparisons usually make me wary, I’ve seen enough positive reviews to know this is good. I’m really excited to see what everyone’s raving about! I also read a really good alien invasion novel last year, Midnight City, and it opened my eyes to a mew genre I didn’t think I would enjoy.

  37. Lyka Cali

“The 5th Wave” kept on revealing itself to me. It’s like it’s urging me to get it, open it, and read it. From the moment I knew the story and its awesomeness, I knew I must have it and read it.

  38. Daniel O.

The premise interested me, but the amount of positive reviews is really what hooked me. I’m really excited to read this.

  39. Daniel O.

Heard about this book about a month ago. The premise interested me, but the amount of positive reviews is really what’s hooked me. Now I’m really excited.

  40. Jojiwoji

My friend and I were recently talking about how the world would end, and I bought up this book’s alien invasion. I read the 54 page preview and I must say, this invasion is awfully realistic. I also heard that this the next ‘Hunger Games’ though not sure about the possible love-triangle… Still, I would love to read this and contribute my own two cents on what is probably one of the most hyped books of the year so far

  41. ladyeni

The promise of snarky humor and strong narrative voice caught my attention, hope it lives up to the expectation!

  43. Madiha S

I’ve never read anything by Rick Yancey but sure have heard good things about his writing style. The story sounds so good! It’s dystopian for a start, a heroine who kicks ass, and an enticing blurb and cover.

I enjoy dystopia, but have seen too many of the same stories everywhere, nothing seems to be striking a chord with me and that scares me because I love this genre. And with all the great things I’m hearing about this one I wait to get my hands on this one and read it!!

  44. Karlee

The early hype surrounding this book has me so excited. My book group on goodreads already has us set to read it them minute it comes out!

  45. Sinmotion

This book was really thrilling for me. There were times when I just had to stop reading because my heart was beating so fast and I was so afraid what my eyes world read next. Gah!

As far as it being the next Hunger Games, I’m so confused as to why that is what everyone seems to be saying. This to me is much different, and so are the main characters involved. This has a much more scientific vibe, with the aliens and all, than the real-life occurrences so prevalent in THG. Anyway, I think I liked Katniss a little better than Cassie in the end. Anyway, I’m excited about this series and looking forward to the other releases.

    • Wendy Darling

I’m excited that you loved it too, Stephanie! I hope you write a review.

I compared this to The Hunger Games not because of the actual story, because that’s obviously very different. (Albeit with lone kickass girl, separated from family, etc.) I’m talking about the possibility that this book MIGHT have the goods to catch fire and blaze a huge path through the YA reading community the way that book did. It has lots of action, deeper themes, strong/polished writing, and tremendous crossover appeal, and on top of that the publisher’s putting their support behind it, too. I am not someone who ever puts forth that suggestion lightly, (save me from all the people who always reference THG or Twilight), but it does seem to me that if any book might make it, and maybe deserves to make it, it’s this one.

  46. Preeti Joan

When I first read the jacket copy it didn’t sound that intriguing, but based on your and other reviews I’m now really excited to read it. I hope that other potential readers aren’t turned off by the jacket copy like I was initially, especially if it is as good as you say!

  56. Judith-Pamela Ayimma

I’m excited to read this book because I love science fiction – it creates a whole new realm of possibilities in literature. Combine that with the “young adult” genre, as well as some great reviews, and let’s just say, I’m more than intrigued. Simply put, it looks interesting and different.

  73. Elena di V.

On another site I came across the blurb with that line: “16-year-old Cassie sets out on her own, carrying an M16 rifle and a teddy bear, in search of her little brother”. I liked it a lot, and now I’d like to read this book!

I have read some reviews for this book, including yours, which make it sound really interesting. I’m also curious as to whether this will be a sci-fi that will work for me, as it’s a pretty hit and miss genre for me.
    Becki Weston

  104. Sam

I completely agree with you about the romance. It’s partly why I didn’t give this 5 stars – that, and the fact that the other POVs weren’t as strong as Cassie’s for me. I really, really liked this one overall though! I haven’t been so excited by an alien book in a very long time, so I’m glad The 5th Wave arrived when it did. Can’t wait to read the sequel! :)

  105. Michelle Alexandrova

I have been wanting to read this for a while now, and have heard nothing but good things about it. All the book reviewers I love have agreed that it is a fantastic book, and I can not wait to finally get started on reading this. It looks amazing!

  106. ang

This book really sounds like it’s something I’ve been looking for for ages – as someone that was largely disappointed in Mockingjay, I”ve had a sort of unfulfilled sense regarding the books, and if I could find something as fast-paced and as intense as THG was, I’d be quite the happy camper. Pick me! :)

  107. Rain Jeys

I’ve heard this is a very intense, absorbing, emotional read and I love Dystopian. Thanks for the chance to win!

I’ve been dying to get my hands on this book ever since I read the short, preview sample my Barnes and Noble gave me. I fell in love with the writing and the characters almost instantly and was frustrated when the preview ended because of how addicting the story was.
There are so many dystopias nowadays that another one makes me want to yawn. But this one is the first in months that I’m actually excited for and can’t wait to read.

  116. Pagecrawler

“Of all the would-be successors to the phenomenon that is The Hunger Games, this is the first one I’ve seen that truly has the potential to be a worthy heir to the YA throne.” Why wouldn’t I want to read it?

    Entered as Andrea Chettle

  117. Nessa Luna

I am excited about this book because it looks like such an interesting book. I haven’t read all the pages of that 54-page download, but the pages that I have read are amazingly written.

  118. Eunice S

There have been a lot of buzz surrounding this book and I’m so intrigued so I’m really interested in reading this one. I also loved your review! I’m definitely going to buy a copy once it’s available at my local bookstore.

I really hope this is great as how everyone says it is. Totally love the cover too :)

  119. The Fold

This book sounds really interesting and something I’ll pick up either way. I’m currently reading through the Maze Runner trilogy and am loving it!

  122. Peter Dudley

Why am I excited about this book? Well, essentially, your review. I have two boys who would love it, and so would I from the sound of it. As long as the plot is solid and the characters real, and the writing is top notch, I’m in.

  123. Bidisha

The next Hunger Games with aliens and wait, siblings? This is the thing that I want! And the trailers are pure gold. I just can’t wait to read The 5th Wave :)

    (Bidisha Das)

  124. alexsmilesforyou

Saw this at my local bookstore today and was SO tempted to buy it on the spot. However, my lack of money at the time forced me to walk away. From all the great feedback I’m hearing already though, I realize I made a mistake! I should have robbed the bookstore! (Just kidding…sort of)

  125. Kim (YA Asylum)

Oh, Wendy! I swore not to buy anymore books until I was done with my rather large TBR pile, but this review — oh, how can I not want this one now? I can’t. I have to have it. Already ordered it now. This book sounds so good, and a five out of five? With a strong leading lady? I need to read this.

  126. xDarithz

I hear that this book is one of the best dytopian books, YA or not! And the trailers plue synopsis really make me want to read it! It seems like it will be action-packed but also pulls at your heartstrings. :D

    (Darith Ly)

  127. Barbara E.

A smart post-apocalyptic/dystopian YA book featuring a strong heroine, count me in. This is the kind of book that I get excited about reading and I’ve been eagerly waiting for the release of The 5th Wave.

  128. Fangirl Fanatic

I have waited for this book to come out for forever. I am beyond excited that it is finally out and I really can’t wait to read it. I’ve read the 54 page preview and I am hooked. I NEED THIS BOOK

  129. Tricia C.

Yancey’s Alfred Kropp books are some of my favorites, so I can’t wait to read this one. Thanks for the giveaway!

  130. Amanda

Well, I definitely want to read something that’s being touted as the next potential Hunger Games. But, even more than that, I think there’s something really special about this book. Although reviews I’ve read point out one or two little issues with the book, overall every review I’ve found is overwhelmingly positive. I’ve also heard that this sounds like a more mature YA book, at least in terms of its writing style, so that intrigues me. Wonderful review and thanks for the giveaway!

  131. Taylor Knight

I love the alien part this book. I really like sci fi books so I can’t wait to read this.

I like how this book seems to have more depth then the normal alien books.

  132. Amber J.

I keep seeing people talk about this book everywhere I turn. It’s like everyone is in on a secret, and I need to know what it is =)

I’ve haven’t found anything like THG since…well, THG lol. So definitely excited to read this.

  133. Bookish Sue

Wendy, your suggestions are always winners. I learned about Angelfall from you and that is still one of my favs! This one looks awesome

  134. THPgirl

This book sounds so interesting! I love post-apocalyptic books, and I really like how this one doesn’t have the usual cliches for the genre.

  135. Lisa Bretherick

Its looks like a cool story to read, I love science fiction and well the description just makes it look interesting

  136. Ems

That eye is the creepiest thing I’ve seen all day…which makes me want to read this book even more (in the daytime, of course). I’m always up for a good creep out.

  137. Ems

  144. nvlo

  145. Amelie

Everyone’s talking about this book and it just sounds like one of those really exciting and slightly scary dystopians – which is exactly what I want more of right now.

  146. Bookish

I’m excited ro read 5th Wave because it sounds like it’s a dystopian novel as good as if not better than THG. Considering I loved THG I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy and find out for myself!

  147. Anjuman Amina

I am a crazy fan of Hunger Games. In this busy life of mine, books are my companions and I love books of the same genre as The Hunger Games.I am pretty sure that this book will turn out to be one of the best books this year. I wish it all the best.

  148. Lauren @ Love is not a triangle

If I’m being honest, I basically skipped your review – though I have read it before on GR (or whatever was posted there). That’s because I have started to hyperventilate whenever I think about getting my hands on this book or see a review, because I want it SO BAD. And I just can’t read another review until I actually have this in hand. I don’t want to cloud my perspective with others’ thoughts. Is that totally weird? Sometimes I do that when I’m about to read a book, or if I really want to read a book. ANYWAY. The fact that you loved this one so much speaks volumes and I’ll be back to chat when I can read it for myself. Oh and off topic, but I’m in the middle of reading Written In Red which is also good.

  149. Danielle D.

Like many others commenting, I have heard it called the next big thing like the Hunger Games or Harry Potter. Needless to say I am greatly intrigued and eager to read it! Thanks for the giveaway!

  150. Sarah A.

Anything described as a worthy successor to the Hunger Games is definitely something I want to read! I’m a sucker for a well written dystopian style story, and hopefully this one is it. Thanks for the giveaway!

I am excited for a thrilling, intense alien book! I enjoy alternating POV’s and can’t wait to read this!

  157. Shelver506

AUGH I want it. I want it so badly. I love that it’s tense and exciting, I love that the MC is tough and takes no prisoners, and I LOVE that it involves genuinely scary aliens. TFW also boasts literally the only book trailers I’ve ever enjoyed.

  158. starryeyedjen

Um, you recommended it for fans of Angelfall. I. Loved. Angelfall. And sci-fi. And especially aliens. I’ve tried not to read too many reviews for this book because I really want to be surprised by it, but you’ve sold me on it, Wendy.

  159. Janhvi

I have only heard awesome things about the 5th Wave so I am super excited to read it! :)

  160. Emelie

It sounds amazing – I’m looking for a new great YA dystopia to read after the Hunger Games. I love flawed heroines and it seems really interesting with aliens and all.

  161. jayjay

I really can’t wait for this book, been hearing lots of good things about it and it just makes me so eager to read it just by reading how you loved this book! Who doesn’t love a sarcastic and flawed heroine? I need to read this book!

  162. Jasprit

I think Sammy’s pov didn’t work for me either, I felt myself more invested in getting Cassie’s pov. With how much of an incredible read The 5th Wave was, I can’t wait to see what Yancey has in store for us in the next book. Wonderful review Wendy! :)

  163. Atilea Anuar

Ever since The Hunger Games, I started to love dystopian novels! I do hope this one is as good as what you have written in your review. I love the premise of this book. Dying to read it!

  164. Beverly S.

I’m so excited about this book. It just sounds GOOD. :) Dystopian novels are among my favorite. Thanks for the chance to win a copy. If I win, I’ll be heading outside to sit and ready and enjoy the spring weather. :)

  165. Ash

This book sounds just perfect. Most recent dystopians I’ve read have the tendency to become very predictable but I can’t see that happening here. Love the premise and I’m dying to get the books in my hands.

  166. Rachel

Oh Evan *swoon*!! This was such an amazing read, Wendy. I couldn’t put it down. Now the long wait for book two. Lovely review! :)

  169. Lyn Kaye

I’ll give blood for this book!! I was denied the ARC. SO I am going to give Rafflecopter big eyes and ope for the best! <3

  170. bisforbibliophile

I’m so psyched about this! I nabbed the free preview at B&N a couple weeks ago and have been champing at the bit ever since. Every dystopia lately seems to be touted as “the new Hunger Games,” so it’s great to hear this one may live up to the title. Plus, aliens!

  171. bisforbibliophile

  176. Leah

I have heard so much about it and since you likened it to The Hunger Games, I’m super curious! :) Thanks for the giveaway.

  177. Ning

I wasn’t interested at first, but mostly because I was busy with real life recently, but now I see so many amazing reviews of this book, and I loved partials! I really need to get my hands on a copy!

  179. ahz1

I’ve heard so many good things about this book. I can’t wait to get a chance to read it.

  180. Captain Bec

I got to read an ARC of this and absolutely enjoyed it. Like you said, I definitely want more tension and horror in the next installment. But before then I want to get my hands on a physical copy of this piece of awesome. It belongs on my bookshelf.

  181. Nadinax

Honestly I just really want to read this book because a) I’ve had The Monstrumologist in my wishlist for a while and I’m really curios about Yancey’s writing and b) so many great reviews of this book!!! I’m very excited to see what it’s all about.

  182. Nadinax

I can’t believe how quickly I read this book! So fantastic — it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. HOLY COW AWESOMENESS!!

  187. Aida G. M.

I’m really interested in this book because it has great reviews and because I love post-apocalyptic or dystopian novels with a snarky and flawed heroine. Apart from the comparation to The Hunger Games, Angelfall and Partials I think also reminds me of Blood Red Road…I love all those books, so I think I’ll enjoy this one too :).

  188. Helen Moulden

I’m excited because I LOVE a book with a sarcastic heroine in it! It reminds me of me (well… maybe not the heroine bit!)

  189. Jessica R

I don’t think I have heard one negative thing about this book, so that definitely has me excited. I also totally love unexpected twists and shockers so I’m hoping this will deliver on that like everyone says it will!
    Thank you :)

  190. suchanovelidea

I’ve heard SO MANY great things about this book. Plus John Green kept tweeting about how awesome it is, and I can’t ignore that. :) Can’t wait to read it!

  191. Ellen Chen

I have heard great things from all my favorite reviewers.

    P.S. I’m echen07(at)yahoo(dot)com

  192. onceaweekormore

I love YA but have gotten burned out lately, having read too many poorly written books. too much insta-love and romantic triangles and unrealistic scenarios. This book sounds great, and I think it’d be great for getting me back on track with my reading.

  193. Keertana

Ahh, I am so excited to read this tomorrow! And yet, I know I won’t get the time to start this till June because of my ARCs, but I desperately NEED to join all you screaming fans. This sounds EXACTLY like my cup of tea and I cannot WAIT. Great review, Wendy! :D

  194. Christine P

I have heard so many great things about this book! I’ve been dying to read it. So jealous of everyone that got the promo kit and ARC. Thanks for the review, it definitely solidified my yearning to read it! Thank you for the giveaway!

  195. Vivien

I was lucky enough to read an ARC of this book. It was definitely an edge of your seat read. Every now and then, I’d get to a passage that would blow me away and I’d zip through the pages, devouring it. I did have a few things that bugged me, but they weren’t significant enough to really mention. I’m so eager to read the sequel. The wait is going to be so long.

  196. bebecald

I’ve been seeing this book everywhere and I’m really curious to see what the fuss is about. I loved the Hunger Games and have been waiting for another epic series. It also seems different enough from the Hunger Games it won’t be a rip off which is always good. I’m definitely looking forward to it!

  197. Marianne Robles

Great review! I’m actually excited for this book because I had previously read the Alfred Kropp series by Rick Yancey, and I want to see how this series goes.

I’ve read so many great reviews already that I can’t wait for it to come out

  198. Nikki R

I could not agree more – SUCH a fantastic book. Definitely one of the best this year (I was going to say “so far”, but… let’s be honest, it’s gonna be the best book this year until the year is over).

Meanwhile the owl on the left side of the page is kiiiind of freaking me out. ;P lol

  199. Chenise Jones

The concept sounds really cool and the fact that I’ve pretty much heard nothing but good things about it is a bonus!

  200. Ashley

I’ve been excited about this book since I went to a conference and it was THE BOOK. Plus a lot of my blogger friends are loving it, which gives me hope.

  201. Becky LeJeune

Oh, man! I’ve heard so many great things about this book. I’d have to be crazy NOT to want to read it!

  202. Pabkins

Because its about ALIENS! I’m very into science fiction lately. Have you read the new David Weber YA books? First one is A Beautiful Friendship. Anyways I like the idea of waves of aliens.

  203. Andrea C.

I’ve read A LOT of good reviews regarding this book, and though it’s not my favorite genre, I think I’d really enjoy it. Especially if you’re considering it the next Hunger Games!

    ~Andrea @ Beauty but a Funny Girl

  204. Vi Dao

I’m so excited to read this book. If I don’t win it, I’m going to buy it.

  205. theyawordsmith

Wow, a 5-star rating has me itching more than ever to get my hands on this…sometimes the dystopian settings in the young adult world can get tedious, but this sounds like a new spin.

  206. Vi Dao

Your review has me very excited to read this book. If I don’t win it, I’m going to buy it.

  207. Sarah Kalaitzidis

I just love the story behind this dystopian novel. I would love to read what happens next and it just makes me more excited with the book trailers.

  208. theyawordsmith

Wow, a 5-star rating has me itching more than ever to get my hands on this…sometimes, the dystopian settings in YA novels can get a little old, but this one sounds like it will really set itself apart.

  209. Ina M.

“Of all the would-be successors to phenomenon that is The Hunger Games, this is the first book I’ve seen that is truly has the potential to be a worthy heir to the YA throne.” <--- That's one of the reasons I really want to read The 5th Wave. I've also read a lot of reviews which sing its praise and so have high hopes for it. Last but not least, it's written by a man. It also makes for a nice change in the sea of female YA writers (nothing against that, but I've felt a lack of male writers - might be just me though!) ^_^

  210. dreamsofawalrus

The fact that you can name its flaws and still rave this much about it says a LOT. You had me at “fans of Angelfall”… Where is my sequel, Susan Ee? Where is it?

Needless to say, I’m ready for another addiction. :) And another phenomenon, if it gets Hunger Gamesy! Is there anything better than feeling like the whole world loves something right along with you? (Oh, hello there Harry. What? No, I wasn’t talking about you–okay fine, yes, you were the first. Okay? Yes you will never be replaced.)

…I love living in this time period, when there are so many wonderful things to nerd out about.

  211. LisaFicTalk

I think I’m mainly excited about this book since you compared it to The Hunger Games and I feel like I haven’t read anything nearly as good as THG since it came out.

    • Lizzie Dymond

The Hunger Games was really good, I was planning on reading this anyway but that comparison has made me even more excited!

  212. Aman

I don’t read a lot of dystopians but I absolutely loved The Hunger Games and haven’t read anything like that again. I’m so glad you loved The 5th Wave and even compared it to one of my favorite books. Definitely going to buy it when it’s out! Great review :)

  213. Elena Gleason

I have been seeing rave reviews for this one, and I’m really excited to get my hands on it. Dystopian is getting a little overcrowded and tired, so hearing that this one is so great must mean it’s *really* amazing, since it’s competing with so many other books.

  214. Grace Barber

I can’t wait for this book! I’ve heard amazing things about it. Thanks for the giveaway, great review!

  215. Danielle Nguyen

Everyone is talking about this one. All the comparisons to THG makes me excited, plus I like the fact that it’s set in the midwest.
