Peeps. PEEPS!

We are practically hopping with excitement over here, because today we’re participating in the official cover reveal for Kinslayer, the hotly anticipated second book in Jay Kristoff’s epic steampunk Asian fantasy series that began with Stormdancer.

The book won’t be out until this fall, but we’ve already got the US and UK/overseas covers to show you now, along with a sweet ARC giveaway. Are you read for all the awesomeness?

Ta-da!

kinslayer stormdancer lotus war jay kristoff

Look how furious Buruu looks on the US cover! The author promised us there will be blood (heh), blood like a river, so judging by the marks on Yukiko’s face, it seems that there will be some serious conflict up ahead. I love the jade green colors, too. AND THERE IS A DRAGON.

I quite like the overseas cover as well–it has a different feel to it, but it’s just as arresting with the cool blues and misty whites of the waterfall contrasting with the bright yellow leaves. The brushstroke font and symbols are a nice touch as well.

The US cover is stunning but the font on he UK cover is awesome too. I love that there is a dragon there on the cover!

  2. Rayne

I loved Stormdancer, so I am really excited about Kinslayer. That gorgeous cover is doing nothing to appease my desperation to own this book. I do like the US version better, although they are both lovely, because it would match my Stormdancer copy and because I love the cover art this artist does. Have you seen the covers for the Theatre Illuminata trilogy? He’s the same cover artist and those are breathtaking as well.

I can’t wait to see what happens with the sadly wingless Buruu and where Yukiko goes next now that she has overthrown an entire evil regimen. I heard something about water dragons and that has me really excited.

    Thanks for this giveaway!

  3. Rayne

I absolutely adored Stormdancer so I am really excited about Kinslayer. I need to know more about Buruu because I just loved him, and I want to see where Yukiko goes now that she has overthrown an entire regimen. These covers are absolutely breathtaking, but I do like the American version better. That artist does gorgeous covers, like the Theatre Illuminata series. Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. Lyn Kaye

The cover trumps the first one – and I love the first cover! I’m excited to see if there is more Buruu in the next book (I mean, he just really MAKES the book). I’m so excited to read this one!

  5. Heather Martin

I’m loving both covers and I can’t wait to read this. I’d fallen so behind on books that I hadn’t realized that this was coming out~! A must read now.

  6. Kamla L.

Both covers are absolutely stunning! Not good for the budget though since it makes me want a set of both the US and UK editions.

  7. deasuluna

I love the look of the US cover the best, I’m happy that it matches the theme and art of Stormdancer and that publishers didn’t do a cover overhaul. I’m not a big fan of the new looks for the Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa. The UK cover looks too subdued and doesn’t really catch my eye or would draw me in.

  8. Alien Osmosis

I’m so completely excited for this book! I’ve been following Kristoff since he brought out Stormdancer – my cousin got an early copy at a convention, and I bought Stormdancer the day it came out!

I’ll have to make sure I get the UK cover, so that it’s the same as my Sotmrdancer one – consistency is everything!

  9. Mandroid

This series has really beautiful covers that stand out compared to most of the YA titles coming out. I like that it has a strong female protag in an action pose instead of just standing there. I haven’t had a chance to read the first book, but I’d love an excuse to pick it up!

I love books that take place in Asia, especially Japan. The first book in the series was amazing, so I definitely cannot wait to read Kinslayer.

  12. Kristina Vallaste

I like the covers, especially the first one. And I need more books on my list. This one sounds awesome, so I want to read it! (:

  13. Stacy Renee

As a huge fan of art, I think that Book 2 has an amazing cover. I really love covers like that to be associated with fantasy. :)

  14. Nicole Lim

I’m so excited for the next book. And I love Jason Chan’s illustrations, he never ceases to amaze. He’s one darn good illustrator.

  15. Nicole Lim

I can’t wait for the second book, I’ve been eagerly awaiting it since I closed the first. The cover art for Kinslayer is amazing and Jason Chan never ceases to amaze me. He’s one darn good illustrator.

  16. Lena

i really like both covers. I like the UK cover because of the yellow flowers and awesome font, but i like the US cover because its greenish-blue, and has Buruu in it :D Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. jml

Liked the first book, though found it flawed and not worth all the hype. Curious to see how J. Kristoff matures as a writer

  18. Liz M.

I love Buruu so much! Can’t wait to read Kinslayer, this is an amazing series and J. Kristoff is so talented.
The cover is so powerfull and inspiring, I really love it.

  19. Liz M.

I love BURUU so much, can’t wait to read this awesome book. Jay Kristoff is an amazing writer but also so funny and likeable.
The new cover is so powerfull and inspiring. Yukiko is the ultimate bad-ass female character ^^

  23. Yodamom

I love the covers, the colors are beautiful. They have a calm but yet a hint of violence to them. I LOVED the first book and can’t wait for this one

  24. BURIED IN BOOKS

I LOVE the US cover. Sorry but I think the UK got short changed again. But at least they match. Their first covers. I loved the relationship between Yukiko and Buruu and I can’t wait to see more of that in the next story. I’m a little worried because I’ve been reading that Jay doesn’t believe in Happy Endings. That doesn’t bode well for Yukiko and Buruu.

  25. Dawson Cowals

I completely devoured the first book after finding out about it through one of my other favorite authors, Kevin Hearne, who praised it’s chainsaw swords and thunder tigers and steampunk, oh my! Definitely can’t wait to see what it is in store for Yukiko and Buruu! I like the US cover since it ties in nicely with the first book.

  26. Lexxie Lin

Both of the covers are gorgeous, but I prefer the US cover, I think the greens, and the strong pose Yukiko has plus Buruu in the background all bring something to it – and it all makes me more eager to read Kinslayer!

I can’t wait to see what Yukiko will be up against, and I also want to read more about hers and Buruu’s relationship.

YAY for international giveaways! Thanks for hosting :)

  27. Christine K.

Whoot! I love all the green and the dragon *O* Yukiko looks so freaking badass on the US cover, but the UK/overseas cover looks really nice too, just not as eye-catching, I think. Thanks for sharing :D

  28. Steph

The covers are gorgeous! I’m excited to see what will happen next after Stormdancer. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  29. Beth Syler

I got an ARC copy of Stormdance and I fell in love with it and to make matters even better Jay Kristoff is an amazingly nice guy who did an interview with me. I feel a little twitch waiting to get my hands on it. I think I prefer the US version of the book cover though.

  30. Lea

Oooh I loved Stormdancer, can’t wait to read Kinslayer!! And I love both covers. Maybe the UK one a little more because of the great color scheme?

  31. Diamond Cronen

Honestly, the cover is what drew my attention to these books! Then I read the blurb and was like, whoa! I gotta read this! ^_^

  32. Carina Olsen

Oh, I love the covers so much. <3 Especially the US one :D It's just so special and badass and all kinds of amazing. Love Buruu! And the other creepy thing ;) I'm just dying to read Kinslayer. Loved Stormdancer so much. <3 Thank you for the giveaway and for sharing :)

  33. Ashfa

I love the UK cover- it’s great. Can’t wait to get my hands on this book, StormDancer was electrifying.

  34. subtleadieu

I adore the covers! I’m going to say that I prefer the US one though – the color scheme is gorgeous. But she looks so badass on the UK cover! It’s hard to choose!

  35. Jehphg

The usa is absolutely gorgeous! I want to read this book so much it’s not even funny! =x

  36. Nixie Cee

These covers are just simply beautiful. It captures the essence of what this trilogy is all about! I really like the US cover better though, capturing how fierce she is. :)

  37. Mila B

The US cover is so badass!!! I wish I could have the book in my hands right now so I can gush over it :333

  38. Mila B

The US cover is so badass!!!! I wish I had the book in my hands right now to gush over it :33

  39. Leannessf

The US covers definitely kick butt over the UK covers – so much darker and more intense! Loved the first book, so can’t wait to read Kinslayer!

    Thanks,
    Leanne

  40. sarah corbin

I like both covers!! its a tough decision to choose one..At one time i was leaning towards the uk. then the us.. now im not sure..thanks for the giveaway!!

  41. Scott Lindeman

I really enjoyed Stormdancer, and own the UK version of that book. For Kinslayer, however, I have experienced a change in heart and will buy the US version. It looks too awesome to pass up.

  42. Kelly

I’m literally drooling over the US cover – Yukkiko is mad fierce; she’s got BLOOD on her face!! Buruu is taking on a sea monster – so awesome! And the best part? It matches the first one PERFECTLY!

    *flails*

  43. Renu

I think I prefer the UK cover. Yukiko looks really fierce. :) Can’t wait to read it, I need me some more Thunder Tiger!

  44. Pearl K

I really like the US cover. I’m a fan of Jason Chan’s cover illustrations. Yukiko looks fierce and really cool in this one. The UK cover is not bad either. Can’t wait for Kinslayer. I really want to know what happen next.

  45. Jojiwoji

I love the UK cover, the background is amazing! And also the golden leaves… <3
I also love the font on both covers

  46. Jojiwoji

I love the overall effect of the US cover, the leaves really stand out and the cover is done very nicely. I also love the font on both covers <3

  47. Christina

I absolutely LOVE the US Cover of KINSLAYER! I think it’s even better than STORMDANCER’s because of the colours and Buruu in the background coupled with the Dragon and the blood and how disheveled Yukiko looks it adds to the mystery of KINSLAYER and battle that is still to be won and consequences that could come with it.

I love the UK cover because of the colours and the girl looking fierce and ready for a fight with her katana held high and leveled.

I am definitely excited to read KINSLAYER because of loved Buruu and Yukiko’s relationship in STORMDANCER and would love to continue their adventure throughout the Lotus War.

    Thank you so much!

  48. G. Donald Cribbs

The US cover is my KINSLAYER, and it matches my STORMDANCER cover. I cannot wait to read more. I was in Jay’s clutches hard in the first book. Every word to the very last line of the book had me. I cannot wait!

  49. Janus Vielle Aragones

I love the covers! especially the US design. I’m excited to read this because I absolutely loved Stormdancer and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Yukiko and Buruu. ^_^

  50. starryeyedjen

How have I not read Stormdancer yet? I just know I’ll love it! Whyyyyyyy????!!!!???? And those covers, my gawd, the gorgeousness. These beauties need to grace my shelves.

  51. Michelle Sedeño

I always adore this series’ covers. US and UK are both awesome!
I haven’t read Stormdancer but I already have a copy. I’m just finishing my tbr then I’ll read it. It would be awesome if I win this! :D

  52. Jas Dela Cruz

I love the US Cover! :)
    I’m excited to read this one, another action-packed novel… Oh, I can’t wait!!! :D

  53. Jenny

I love, love, loved the cover for Stormdancer and the cover for Kinslayer is seriously amazing as well. These covers are so well done! I absolutely adore the US covers. Gorgeous.

  54. Jessie

I love how they are knocking these covers out of the park – in different ways! I have to admit that the US covers are my favorite, but the UK ones are gorgeous too.

Also: A DRAGON IN BOOK TWO? The cover shows it, so it better be in there. If there’s anything better than an arashitora, it’s an arashitora fighting a mothereffng dragon!

  55. Shelley Romano

Stormdancer was the bomb diggity and therefore Kinslayer should be even better! I actually like the UK a little bit more than the US

  56. Bookworm1858

Stormdancer wasn’t really my thing but I love how both of these covers match the first book so well! That’s always nice to see.

  57. Nyx

I loved Stormdancer and that ending was killer. Can’t wait to see what happens with the Rebellion now. Love the US cover, actually both, but the US cover more xD

  58. Sara @ Forever 17 Books

That cover is so friggin awesome! Total kickass chick with an awesome dragon background! I’m kicking myself for not having read Stormdancer yet, but I do have a copy so hopefully I can get to it before this sequel comes out. :)

  59. Vivien

I feel my fangirl kicking in!!! It’s absolutely brilliant. I cannot wait to read this book. It’s bound to be amazing!

  60. Helen Moulden

Fairly simple, but I LOVED Stormdancer so so much, and have been waiting to see what happened to Yukiko and Buruu! As to the covers, I prefer the US one, I love the colour scheme (it pops more), and I think it demonstrates how fierce and strong Yukiko is better than the UK version.

  61. Amber

Um…I wrote a detailed comment about liking the US one way more than the international release, but I think blogger just ate it. So here is the shortened version: yay!

  62. Amber

This is a rare instance of me liking the US cover more than the international one. With the US one I am immediately arrested by her eyes, then I see the title and all the awesomeness happening in the background.

With the international cover, I’m not sure where to look first – the leaves? Are they really the most important thing? Also, all the elements look very cut-and-pasted onto the background.

If I don’t win an ARC I will probably try and get hold of the US edition rather than the international one, which will undoubtedly be the one releasing in my country.

  63. Claire Kim

The US cover is so pretty! *foams at mouth*

The other one looks a bit silly…I dunno. Fantasy books with real people on them usually don’t work well with me.

  64. readingdate

Ooh the US cover is pure gorgeousness! Thanks for sharing it today. I need to catch up with this series!

  65. Daphne

Love it so much! Especially the feral expression on her face. It reminds me of the connection she has with Buruu and how they meld into one mindset when fighting. xD

    Daphne @ Reading Until Dawn

  66. Keertana

For the first time, the US Cover is actually MUCH better than the UK one. I liked the UK cover of Stormdancer, but the US cover of this with the darkness and THE DRAGON is just so epic. I can’t wait! :D

  67. Mary @ BookSwarm

BURRU!! He’s so AWESOME! I can’t wait to spend time with that gorgeous beast again. And he looks fantastic (and pissed) on the US cover. SO PRETTY! And I love that it works with the first one (I’m not always picky but I do like when they match, especially if I loved the artwork on the first).

  68. Rain Maiden

Love the US cover, it goes right along with the first book. I look forward to escaping into another world in the next installment.

  69. Neyra

the US COVER oh.my.god!!! I freakin’ love it!!! eeeep!!! i like the UK cover too, but i think the US cover is BADASS and tops STORMDANCER’S for sure!! Thank you ladies for the chance to win! :)

  70. Cricket

I’m really excited about this one because I loved Stormdancer, which also had awesome covers. I think I leaned more towards the US one but I like both of these as well. Great giveaway!

  71. Jasprit

Thank you so much for the awesome giveaway Wendy! I absolutely loved Stormdancer, so can’t wait to find out what happens next with Burru and Yukiko. And I much prefer the US cover, there seems to be so much more going on in that cover. But the UK cover is also very pretty!

  72. LisaFicTalk

Both covers are amazing, but the US cover wins this time! It is absolutely gorgeous! I just love the Jade Green colour and the fierce expression on Yukiko’s face and Buruu in the background. *shivers*

    So good.

  73. Jessica R

The covers look great! I do like the US cover better because it is definitely more bad-ass and striking. When you look at them with their respective STORMDANCER covers, though, I think that they were both done well! So many people have loved these ones that I clearly must read!

  74. Tammy Sparks

I am BEYOND excited to read Kinslayer! STORMDANCER was one of my top ten books last year. I adore the cover!! I love the US one better than the UK cover, which is good because that’s the one I’ll be buying:) Thanks so much for a fantastic giveaway!

  75. Amy Acosta

Green is so not my color, but hell, that US cover is just amazing. I am UBER excited to read Kinslayer!

  76. Melliane

I confess my fav is the first cover, really beautiful! I heard many wonderful things about the first book. I really need to reat it!

  77. Linz

I am really excited to read KINSLAYER. I pre-ordered it already, and just submitted my receipt at the link on Jay’s blog to get a free copy of The Last Stormdancer.

Both covers are awesome; the US version is intense fantasy, which I love, but the UK version is more subdued, with a traditional feel to it, which I find awesomely amazing!

  78. Liza

really excited for this book to come out! i felt slightly unsatisfied with how Stormdancer ended (probably because i felt it ended too early) so i’m glad that Yukiko and Buruu will be having more adventures!

  79. Book Chelle

I love the US cover. It has a very anime-esque quality to it. And you’re right, her face is so fierce. It’s awesome.

  80. Debby

These covers are just epically awesome. I can’t even. WOW. I was nervous about how closely they could stick with the theme of the last covers, since those were already so incredibly beautiful and specific, but WOAH. Since I have a UK copy of Stormdancer, I’m definitely more wowed by that copy, though the US verious is beautiful as well. Ugh, I want this in my hands NOW.

  81. Pabkins

I looked all over on his site and couldn’t find the scavenger hunt …maybe I’m a bad scavenger!

    • Wendy Darling

Hi Tabitha! I’ve corrected the link above so it goes directly to the post on Jay’s blog. :) Hope that helps!

    • Pabkins

thanks – I just kept hunting and hunting til I found it – but hey I came back for the question! *dives back into the hunt* This one I’m so determined to win!! LOL

  82. Pabkins

OMG OMG OMG! I LOVEEED the first book. Ok the first cover…US one – awesome stella…piddles with glee. The UK one? I’m glad I don’t have to get that cover it just doesn’t wow me at all. Maybe because it doesn’t seem completely cohesive to me.

  83. Shelver506

I’m flailing. FLAILING. The US cover is gorgeous and I love it to pieces. But I’m so scared to read this book, because I know it’s going to eat chunks out of my heart. It’ll be worth it, though.

  84. Airship Librarian

OOOOOH my goodness! I read the first book and am so, so curious about the second one. While the first one wasn’t perfect, it was definitely good enough to have me freaking out now!

Eaaaagh! I want to read this so badly!

Also, as with the first book, both covers are extremely awesome. My personal favorites are the UKs, but the US are pretty darn gorgeous.

I would like this. Very much.
