An Interview with a Thunder Tiger (& Stormdancer giveaway!)

stormdancer yukiko buruu jay kristoff
Imagine, if you will, a black sky filled with lightning as a sky-ship floats high above the mountains of Shima. On the deck, buffeted by wind and lashing rain, a 16-year-old girl named Yukiko stretches out her senses and feels a flicker of warmth and a heartbeat. Could it be that the mythical griffin, long thought to be extinct, actually exists after all?

Yes. This fiercely proud “thunder tiger,” with the beautiful head and wings of an eagle and the sleek hindquarters of a tiger, is named Buruu. As Yukiko gets to know him under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, she finds keen intelligence in this unlikely ally. We’re very fortunate that Buruu has permitted us to submit some questions to him, as arashitora do not often deign to speak to mere mortals.

Character Interview with Buruu

Your relationship with Yukiko starts off on a rocky note. I guess it’s a little hard to swallow when puny, insignificant humans decide they want to capture a living legend and bend him to their will. What was your initial reaction to this outrageous affront?

I VOWED TO KILL THEM. THE GIRL, HER FATHER, HER FRIENDS. WEAKLINGS, CRAWLING THROUGH MY SKY IN THEIR WOODEN SLUG WITH NO WINGS. LOOK AT THE RUINS THEY HAVE MADE OF THIS PLACE. LOOK AT THE HELL THEY CALL HOME.

IT HAS BEEN… DIFFICULT. TO TRY TO UNDERSTAND THEM. WHY THEY DO THE THINGS THEY DO.

Were you surprised when Yukiko began speaking to you in your mind? There aren’t many telepathic samurai girls around, after all.

MY KIND REMEMBER WHAT HAS GONE BEFORE. ONCE WE WERE A PART OF THIS PLACE, ONCE YOUR HEROES RODE UPON OUR BACKS. WE REMEMBER THE TALES OF THE STORMDANCERS. BUT THAT IS PAST. THE MONKEY-CHILDREN WHO LIVE HERE NOW ARE UNWORTHY.

WE DID NOT THINK THE GIFT TO SPEAK TO THE CHILDREN OF THE STORM WOULD HAVE SURVIVED. IN TRUTH, WE DID NOT CARE. WE LEFT THIS PLACE LONG AGO.

BUT YES, IT SURPRISED ME.

MANY THINGS ABOUT YUKIKO SURPRISED ME.

In the beginning, you are pretty matter-of-fact about human expendability and are quite ruthless in battle, in no small part because of our tendency to destroy ourselves. What was it about the “wretched monkey-thing,” as you call Yukiko, that won you over and made you look at humans in a different way?

SHE IS SMALL, YET SHE IS BRAVE. SHE IS WEAK, YET SHE FIGHTS. SHE SEES THE TRUTH OF THINGS, THOUGH SHE MAY DENY IT. SHE USES HER EYES, AND SHE USES HER VOICE. THOUGH SHE MAY FEAR, IT NEVER RULES HER.

THAT, AND SHE GAVE ME A NAME…

…BUT YOU WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT THAT. AND I WILL SPEAK NO MORE OF IT. NOT YOUR BUSINESS.

Dare I ask how old you are, Buruu? What does this mean if you are the last of your kind?

DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR KIND’S OBSESSION WITH NUMBERS. HOW MANY TURNINGS OF THE MOON HAVE YOU LIVED? HOW MANY OF THESE SMALL ROUND PIECES OF METAL DO YOU OWN? HOW MANY HOUSES? HOW MANY SLAVES? WITH THE MALES OF MY KIND, THERE IS ONLY CUB AND BUCK. I AM BUCK. THAT IS ENOUGH.

I AM THE ONLY ARASHITORA IN SHIMA. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN I AM THE ONLY ARASHITORA ALIVE. THERE ARE OTHERS.

Fan Art by Genzoman

Every scene that features you is my favorite. I especially love the dialogue between you and Yukiko, which is both touching and hilarious in turn. As you listened to her, you must’ve overheard some stray thoughts here and there, too? She moons over a boy with sea-green eyes for a big portion of the story. Maybe you have some gossip, er, insights to share.

DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOU MONKEY-CHILDREN. SO MUCH TIME WASTED OVER COUPLING. I WONDER HOW THERE CAN BE SO MANY OF YOU, FOR ALL THE TROUBLE YOU SEEM TO HAVE WITH IT.

IT IS A SIMPLE THING FOR MY KIND. THE FEMALE FLUSHES AND THE MALES FIGHT FOR HER AND THAT IS ALL. WITH YOU IT IS ALL WAKING DREAMS AND BLUSHING CHEEKS AND BAD POEMS.

YUKIKO IS NO DIFFERENT TO ANY OF YOU IN THIS RESPECT. MORE IS THE PITY. BUT I WILL NOT SPEAK OF HER INNER THOUGHTS. THEY ARE HER OWN, RIDICULOUS AS THEY MAY BE. SHE WILL LEARN.

PERHAPS THE HARD WAY.

What happens now for the humans and what role will you play in the Lotus War? This battle is far from over.

BLOOD. BLOOD LIKE A RIVER. LIKE A STORM. CAN YOU NOT SMELL IT? CLOSE YOUR EYES AND BREATHE DEEP, MONKEY-CHILD. HOLD YOUR BREATH, LEST YOU DROWN.

A WOUNDED ANIMAL IS THE MOST DANGEROUS. SHIMA IS WOUNDED NOW. BUT THERE ARE THOSE IN THIS LAND WHO WILL NOT ALLOW THEIR GRIP ON POWER TO SLACKEN. THE ONES WHO FILL THE LAND WITH FLOWERS AND THE SKIES WITH POISON. THEY WILL NOT STOP UNTIL PEOPLE CHOOSE TO STAND IN THEIR WAY.

YUKIKO WILL STAND. BUT NEVER ALONE. NOT WHILE I LIVE.

Umm…I must say, it’s very hard to resist petting such a handsome fellow. Would you permit me to approach you? Ever since Yukiko first made you purr, I have been dying to run my hand along your gorgeous feathers.

…IF YOU MUST.

HIGHER. A LITTLE TO THE LEFT.

< PURRS >

Ahem. Now that we’ve momentarily satisfied my curiosity (next time: Wendy brings out her saddle for a test flight!), we’ll finish on a more dignified note.

SADDLE?

< GROWLS >

Oh, all right. I just miss flying, that’s all.

Who would win in battle: a thunder tiger or a sea dragon?

WE RARELY BATTLE THE CHILDREN OF THE SEA. THEIRS IS A REALM OF OCEANS AND TIDES. OURS IS ONE OF WIND AND STORM. WE DO NOT FLY IN THE WATERS. THEY DO NOT SWIM IN THE SKIES. WE ARE FIRE AND ICE.

WILL FIRE MELT ICE? WILL ICE DROWN FIRE? IT DEPENDS ON THE WILL AND STRENGTH BEHIND EACH. BUT THERE ARE DRAGONS FAR OLDER AND FAR STRONGER THAN ANY THUNDER TIGER ALIVE TODAY. YOU MAY NOT REMEMBER THEM. BUT WE DO.

PERHAPS YOU WILL MEET THEM ONE DAY.

Thank you for granting us the favor of your presence today, Buruu. Until we meet again.

THE STORM COMES, MONKEY-CHILD. BUT I LIKE YOU.

I HOPE YOU DO NOT DROWN.

About the Author

Jay Kristoff grew up in the most isolated capital city on earth and fled at his earliest convenience, although he’s been known to trek back for weddings of the particularly nice and funerals of the particularly wealthy. He spent most of his formative years locked in his bedroom with piles of books, or gathered around dimly-lit tables rolling polyhedral

dice. Being the holder of an Arts degree, he has no education to speak of. He abides in Melbourne with his secret agent kung-fu assassin wife, and the world’s laziest Jack Russell.

STORMDANCER is his debut.

Thanks for posting this interview! I’ve just read Stormdancer, and I love Buruu! He’s really funny at times~ :D

I love how he always whines about Yukiko’s need to ‘couple’. Haha…poor Yukiko~

    Anyway, thanks again! :]

  2. starryeyedjen

Fabulous interview! I’m assuming he speaks in that booming voice for the duration of the book? Gaaah, I can’t wait to find out! Also, I would love to meet the author in person. From his online presence and interviews, etc., I just know he would be tons of fun. (Also, can I tag along next time so I can go for a ride, too?!?)

  3. SeekingPlumb

What I love the most, without having read the book yet, is Jay’s fun, boisterous personality! To combine that with fiction can only lead to fireworks!! Can’t wait!!

  4. Nori

This whole book just sounds so unique, and really stands out from almost everything else I’ve read this year. I love the classic fantasy quest idea, and how Kristoff seems to completely make it his own. Plus, I love stories where the female main character is capable of proving herself to a world of doubters. Also, not going to lie, the cover definitely struck my fancy too! It promises such a kick-butt main character. Oh, and what’s not awesome sounding about a thunder tiger? Seriously, this sounds like one awesome book. Thanks for the giveaway! And thanks for such an entertaining interview!

  5. Michelle @ In Libris Veritas

I love this interview! Buruu is sheer awesomeness personified and I envy Yukiko so much. Stormdancer was one of my favorite books this year and I’ve actually been dying to read it again, but I had an eARC that expired (insert crying here) so I have to wait for now.
Just thinking about it makes me want to run and tell people about it…though since it’s 11 at night the only person I can tell is my boyfriend…and he’s heard it all already about 4 times. But what’s once more right?
Thanks for the chance at the book!

  6. Lyn Kaye

If I give you the big eyes, can that be used as an entry as well?
I somehow missed the interview, I need to read that.

  7. Courtney Diles

As a manga fanatic, I can’t express how much the flavor of this appeals to me. I’ve just completed my Japanese minor and an internship in the manga department at Random House, and I have to say – This doesn’t sound like it has much to do with Japan historically or anything, but damn, does it seem anime-inspired! I haven’t read a griffin story I really liked since I read The Divide in middle school, and I’d love to try to find another.

  8. Zamir Zumar

You mentioned that this was still going on over at Goodreads, so I had to come out here and try for that copy! The descriptions sound amazing as does the premise of the book along with what the author has done here as a character for Buruu, who looks to be one of the stars of this novel. And to be honest, this’ll be my very first Japanese inspired book. So what better to begin with, then with a steampunk/griffin/telepathic/chainsaw weilding heroin.

    Send me a copy, lol!

  9. Jade

Thanks to WendyDarling for introducing me to this book. When I read”author’s description of the story is “telepathic samurai girls and griffins in steampunk feudal Japan I’m really looking forward to reading it”-my first thought was, “SOLD”!. I hope I can win a signed copy.

  10. Amanda

I am most interested in seeing what a steampunk feudal Japan is like in this novel. I’ve read a number of books marketed as “steampunk” that really only featured a dirigible or something minor and I’ve heard that Kristoff’s book embraces steampunk much more, so I am eager to read about that aspect in particular.

  11. Zoë

Pretty much everything strikes my fancy about this book, it sounds awesome! I love the exotic locale and original concept in particular.

  12. Desiree

Ugh, I just left this kick ass comment but then I accidentally erased it! Damn. I owned an ARC of Stormdancer and I LOVVED it! I lent it to my local indie bookstore employee so that she could also fall in love with it and order it for the store. I think my plan backfired because she loved it so much that she kidnapped it, I think for good! I NEED me a signed copy of this book! Holy hell crap, do I need one! I wouldn’t mind having my own personal Buruu too!
Thanks for the giveaway guys! You rock.

  13. Katja

This book looks brilliant, even though I have seen some reviews commenting on the lack of extensive research.
For me, I love animals, and Buruu is a freaking flying tiger. Come on, who doesn’t want to fly (or at least see) a flying tiger??
I’m also very interesting in Japanese language and culture, as I’m a big fan of anime and manga. Watashi no namae wa Katja! ^.^

  14. Kelly

WE RARELY BATTLE THE CHILDREN OF THE SEA. THEIRS IS A REALM OF OCEANS AND TIDES. OURS IS ONE OF WIND AND STORM. WE DO NOT FLY IN THE WATERS. THEY DO NOT SWIM IN THE SKIES. WE ARE FIRE AND ICE.

PERHAPS YOU WILL MEET THEM ONE DAY.

Please please please please please tell me this means they might encounter sea dragons in future installments!!! Please!

I mean, as much as I love Buruu, to see him go up against a sea dragon that threatened Yukiko’s life would be just…epic.

  15. ~Jennifer~

Stormdancer sounds so unique–Japanese + steampunk = awesomesauce. I’m so wanting to get my paws on this book.

The author is super cute, too. Just sayin’. ;)

  16. dreamsofawalrus

All Buruu’s replies made me crack up. His turn of phrase is the best: “CRAWLING THROUGH MY SKY IN THEIR WOODEN SLUG WITH NO WINGS”

I can already tell I’ll love this book. Sounds pretty unique, too. I’m always a sucker for stories that include non-human creatures as significant characters, and Buruu sounds like a lot of fun. :D

  17. The Teen Book Guru

“THE STORM COMES, MONKEY-CHILD. BUT I LIKE YOU.

I HOPE YOU DO NOT DROWN.”

Ahahaha Buruu makes me want to read Stormdancer right now! He seems so cute!!!! OMG I just want to like eat him up or something. Thanks for the awesome interview, you guys!! And for the giveaway too!! <333

  18. KikiD

This book reminds me of Eon and Eona! Those books were amazing! I hope this one is another kick-ass book!

  19. Angie

OMG!! This dude is like a gruff little teddy bear. I hope he isn’t insulted by that… But I mean, he sounds like he’s trying to hide that he’s incredibly sweet and has feelings for Yukiko. Even though I haven’t officially met him yet, I need to read Stormdancer now! We need more male heroes like that! Gruff little teddy bears!!!

  20. Ms. Perk

I am very intrigued by this book and expect it will be a big crossover hit for the Manga and Steampunk fans that frequent my high school library!

  21. Ms. Perk

Very much looking forward to reading this–I expect it will be a big crossover hit for the Manga and Steampunk fans that frequent my high school library (previously separate groups for the most part, but I think this will bring them together!)

  22. Lena

I love this book!! Buruu is awesome, i love his pov, and Yukiko is an amazing kick-assing ninja girl :D

  23. Lark

In one word: gryphons. A highly neglected fantasy species, if you ask me (well, with the exception of Mercedes Lackey.) Dragons get most of the attention and most of the glory. I love dragons, too, but gryphons are cool!

  24. CJames

I’m new to the blog, but any place on the internet where I can stumble upon an interview with a griffin and also get a book rec for a YA book with a female samurai protagonist (how did I not know about this already?!) is where I want to be. Delightful.

  25. Sarah (saz101)

EEEEEEEEEEE! I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!

THIS: “THAT, AND SHE GAVE ME A NAME…”
    MY HEART.

    And THIS: “…IF YOU MUST.

HIGHER. A LITTLE TO THE LEFT.

    < PURRS >“

    Bahahahahaha! Guys, FABULOUS interview ♥♥♥

  26. Shelver506

Dagnabit, I want this book so badly! Asian steampunk and griffins! I love griffins. And calling them thunder-tigers just makes them that much cooler. (By the by, I’d love to be called monkey-child. Just saying.)

  27. TheDings

I loved the interview! This book has been on my to read list for a while and now I am even more excited to read it! Cannot wait… the sooner the better!

  28. TheDings

I loved the interview! This book has been on my to read list for a while now and now I am even more excited to read it… the sooner the better!

  29. Micheline D

Such a GREAT interview and post! I’m getting more and more excited to check out this book asap! Thanks for the post, interview & giveway :)

  30. Jasprit

This is such a fantastic review Wendy!!! Buruu was one of my favourite characters from Stormdancer, so it was great getting into his head that little bit more from you interview! And I’ve always wanted to feel his feathers too! You lucky thing! ;)

  31. Brandy Mccollum

Well lets see, I’ve been reading a lot of interviews from this author of awesomeness and I just think anyone that interesting must have a great imagination and I really want to read this book to find out if I’m correct :) thanks for the giveaway

  32. Annabelle Marie Veronica

I LOVE this! Well, because honestly, who doesn’t love Buruu? He’s awesome. And his relationship with Yukiko is so complex yet also so simple. (That makes no sense.) Seriously, this book is just genius and I love how deeply every single one of the characters is fleshed out.

I’ve also totally been going around the blogosphere wielding a chainsaw katana because those things are so darn awesome.

Also, you always have the most brill interview questions. Ever. They’re so interesting and fun to read!

    Love! xx

  33. Aeicha @ Word Spelunking

So jealous you got to interview my boo Buruu (yes, I do have a crush on a thunder tiger…don’t judge me!).

Stormdancer has been one of my absolute favorite reads this year. My review was all fangirly love over the badass Yukiko, the fierce Buruu, Kristoff’s awesome writing and my lady boner longing for my own chainsaw katana…how friggin cool are those?!

    Fab interview :)

  34. Heidi@Rainy Day Ramblings

Oh how I loved this book…I gushed all over it in my review on my blog last week. It will likely be my fav of 2012. Buruu is just made of awesome and I would love to ride him. Our infatuation with coupling…well what can we say? We like our smexy time. Mr. Kristoff is a writing genius! Hays off to him for this extraordinary read!

  35. A Canadian Girl

The caps lock font is a bit annoying to read but I’ll forgive Buruu if he lets me pet and ride him :)

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews for this one so I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it, Wendy.

  36. Neyra

I love love loooooveeee Buruu!! I’m jealous you got to pet him!! *pouting* >.< Ahhh, I cannot wait for book two!! The anticipation is killing me!! >0<

  37. Julianna Helms

That was amazing. Thank you! BURUU IS THE BEST. That is all. :P

Oh, and btw, Wends, I accidentally hit the return key before I typed my address in the Rafflecopter. Sorry about that! >.<

  38. Julianna Helms

Oh, that was absolutely amazing. Thank you! And BURUU IS THE BEST. That is all.

Oh, and btw, I hit the return key before I finished typing my address in the rafflecopter. Sorry! >.<

  39. Candace

My son bumped me and my facebook entry (following you) went through before I typed in the name I follow under. So it’s Candace Robinson. Sorry about that!

  40. Jen

Awww this was so sweat. I love how you can see how close the relationship between Buruu and Yukiko is. I adore Buruu’s voice it is both attatched and detactched. He knows all about the world, but has no real connecion to it except Yukiko.

Thanks for the interview. I canot wait to read this book!

  41. Candace

I loved this book so much! Buruu is on my all time favorite characters list as I never really knew what to expect from him, he constantly surprised me. And I love his voice! It’s amazing how easy it is to really ‘hear’ him. And he has such a strong presence. LOVED this interview! I’m so jealous to got to ‘meet’ him!

  42. Kara_Malinczak

THE STORM COMES, MONKEY-CHILD. BUT I LIKE YOU.

I HOPE YOU DO NOT DROWN.

Haha, I love him so much! And I am so jealous! You got to pet him! *growls*

    Great interview, Wendy!

  43. Keertana

OHMYGOSH AN INTERVIEW WITH BURUU! :D He is, by far, my favorite character of the whole book and I love his deep relationship with Yukiko. Plus, not only is a staunchly opinionated character, he is one that brings some amusement and light into an otherwise dark tale. Wonderful, wonderful interview, Wendy! I wish I could have pet (or ridden) Buruu too! ;)

    • Wendy Darling

He’s definitely my favorite character too, Keertana! And yes, the relationship between him and Yukiko was very touching.

I am pleased he didn’t bite my head off.

  44. Stephanie T.

I love Japanese culture! I was wondering recently if I could find any Japanese books in the YA world, and I just stumbled upon this book. Also, griffins.

  45. dragongirl

What strikes my fancy about Stormdancer?

Griffins. That’s all I can say. I’ve loved griffins ever since I saw the Prince Caspian movie when it came out several years ago. And there are totally not enough YA books with griffins. Thaaank you Jay Kristoff for finally writing one!

    • Wendy Darling

III know, it’s about time, isn’t it?

Random side note: my husband wanted me to ask Buruu whether he thought he would win in a battle with a liger. (Like from Napoleon Dynamite, hah.) I chose not to ask that question, as I didn’t think Buruu would be amused…

  46. TayteH

It’s about a girl with wicked skills with a sword, and that Buruu sound interesting. :D Thunder Tiger. that’s great. :D

  47. Rachel

Loved this fun interview with Buruu! Hope you got your ride Wendy. How nice of you to host a giveaway, too. I really need to read this sooner rather than later. :)

  48. Oh! Paper Pages

After stalking – I mean following Jay on Twitter, I am convinced that Stormdancer will be my new favorite book. I am obsessed with the Japanese culture and am convinced that I was reincarnated into the wrong body. I did an informal name change and have tried to get my family to call me by my Japanese name, Keiko. They refuse and continue to call me by my traditional Indian name. I will continue with my efforts.

Reading Stormdancer will reinvigorate my passion for a culture that promotes paper folded creatures, presents wrapped in cloth, and washi tape.

Thanks for the giveaway and hilarious review! Sayonara.

    • Wendy Darling

I’m very curious what you’ll think of this book then! Just remember this is Japanese-inspired culture, not a faithful Japanese setting. Being that there are, you know, griffins and skyships and whatnot. ;)

P.S. I love washi tape and furoshiki, too!

  49. ahz1

Buruu is the bestest thunder tiger ever. I loved his observations of humans, especially his comments on courting. So cute!

  50. Carl

I’m intrigued by the idea that a totally misanthropic outcast like Mister Kristoff could write something that people so avidly want to read.
He must have been very drunk when he wrote this, possibly channeling the spirit of L. Frank Baum. Nonetheless, best wishes to all concerned, and special thanks to Mister K for eliminating the need for us to alter our collective consciousness through the utilization of chemical compounds. This book should be all the drug one needs.

  51. Livvy

THAT WAS BRILLIANT! I have to say, I’m having trouble reading the book myself at the moment, but I do adore Buruu.

He’s so fun with the monkey-children name. I really do think his character adds a lot to the story.

The questions were quirky and Wendy, you need to fly again soon! :D

    • Wendy Darling

How far along are you, Livvy? The story does take a bit to get going. Buruu is definitely an unforgettable character, however.

And YES, I agree. I think I need to catch a ride somehow, somewhere.

  52. Kayla Beck

I love this interview! I’m in the middle of the book right now (stupid All The Grownup Things!), but I am loving the world-building. It is truly epic. As for what was most exciting to me about the book – the cover art! Yes, I am very well aware that it has nothing to do with the author, but I could have wept when I saw it considering how many terrible covers I have been subjected to. That being said, I’m sure Jay has filled the beautiful cover well. :-)

    • Wendy Darling

The cover is pretty awesome. Have you been on Jay’s Facebook page? He did some hilarious mock Stormdancer sightings, placing the book in fictional settings. That advertising background of his came in handy. ;)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  53. nrlymrtl

I am curious to know if Buruu has compose poetry himself – and how it compares to monkey-child poetry!

I also want to pry into the thunder tiger’s genealogy to know if he is related to the mythical kirin?

    Great post!

    • Wendy Darling

I wonder what Buruu considers good poetry as well. ;) And oo, good question! If he’s not related, perhaps we’ll at least see one show up in a later book…

  54. Sam

I love how he calls us monkey-children. In caps lock too. ;) A fun interview! Thanks for sharing! :)

    • Wendy Darling

Buruu talks in caps-lock in the book, hah. It gives you a good sense of what he must sound like in Yukiko’s head. :) Thanks so much!

  55. Lee723

“WITH YOU IT IS ALL WAKING DREAMS AND BLUSHING CHEEKS AND BAD POEMS.” < -- EPIC GIGGLESNORT. Loved Loved Loved this interview! Great job, Wends! :D

  56. Molly Baez

Ooooo-weeee! Love the interview Wendy. I am squeeee-ing over here with the excitement for this read. This book is so right up my alley and I am immensley looking forward to it.

    • Wendy Darling

Yay! I’m happy you liked the interview, and I look forward to hearing what you think of the book when you get around to it, Molly. :)

  57. Lolita

A japanse steampunk, that sounds so original. That’s why i want to read it and ofcourse the cover is beautifull too.

    • Wendy Darling

The cover is pretty cool! I like the UK/Aussie edition, but I think I like ours more. The Japanese-inspired steampunk setting is so much fun, and so well done.

  58. b helm

What strikes my fancy about this book? How about everything? That might be a lame answer, but everything about this book – the characters, the conflict, the setting, and even the fact that the author is male (a sort of minority in YA these days) makes me want to read this immediately. Also, the cover is gorgeous.

    Pick meeee! :)

    • Wendy Darling

Well, just about everything about this book is pretty amazing, hah. I like that we’re seeing more and more good male YA authors, too.

Let us hope the Rafflecopter gods smile down upon you. ;)

  59. biochemguy

The characters, the story, the reviews that I’ve read including a Mini Freak Out, all of it has made me ridiculously excited for Stormdancer, I would be honored to win it. :)

  60. Carissa St. Amand

All of this made me laugh, but I think I might’ve enjoyed this the most:

THE STORM COMES, MONKEY-CHILD. BUT I LIKE YOU.

I HOPE YOU DO NOT DROWN.

I hope you don’t drown either :P I can’t wait to get my hands on Stormdancer. Everything about it sounds amazing, (and original) now if only I had the money to buy it…hey student loans….

    • Wendy Darling

I’ve never been called a monkey-child before. But I guess it’s good he doesn’t want me to die.

Aw, student loans–I’ve been there. I hope you get a chance to read this soon, Carissa! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before.

  61. Tanja - Tanychy

I’m not entering the giveaway but Wendy can I hug you? This is so amazing. Buruu is my fave in this book and I love this interview! Amazing really! :) I enjoyed so much.

    • Wendy Darling

Yes, yes! Please hug me! *opens arms*

      :D

I’m so glad you enjoyed the interview! It’s all thanks to Jay, though, who is such a great sport. Buruu is such a fantastic creature, this interview couldn’t be anything but amazing.

  62. Lexxie Lin

I LOVE BURUU! AND I LOVE THAT HE AGREED TO DO AN INTERVIEW WITH WENDY! I LOVE THAT BURUU WOULD NOT SHARE YUKIKO’S INNER THOUGHT – HE HAS A STRONG CHARACTER!

This was truly hilarious. And of course, everybody knows I fell in love with Buruu while reading Stormdancer :) Can’t wait for book number two.
    (un)Conventional Bookviews

    • Wendy Darling

I have to confess, when Jay–I mean Buruu–sent his answers back, I was laughing my butt off. ;) I’m glad you enjoyed the interview!

  63. Vivien

You guys seriously have THE best posts ever. Like, I cannot even compete with them. I’m nowhere near witty enough. But, Jay is a badass motherf*cker. Yes. He rocks my world!!!

Oh please, we’re just lucky to have great authors who are willing to play with us. ;) Jay is pretty kickass for sure. I bet he’d wield a mean chainsaw katana.

Yay! You got a character interview with my favorite character! :D

“WOODEN SLUG WITH NO WINGS” – Tell us how you really feel, BURUU.

Awwww, Buruu on Yukiko = tears of omg that’s so sweet. I love them.

    More Arashitora! Hell yes!

BAHAHAHA, BURUU DOES NOT UNDERSTAND ROMANCE.

Too bad you didn’t get to go for a ride, Wendy, but it’s awesome that he let you pet him!

    • Wendy Darling

III know, I like how he mentions the other arashitora so casually. And pffft, I bet I could sweet talk him into letting me do more than pet him. I just need more time. #brash

BLOOD. BLOOD LIKE A RIVER. LIKE A STORM. CAN YOU NOT SMELL IT? CLOSE YOUR EYES AND BREATHE DEEP, MONKEY-CHILD. HOLD YOUR BREATH, LEST YOU DROWN.

Yessssss!! \(^o^)/ That is just what I need out of the rest of the series!

    Fantastic interview Wendy and Buruu!
