Ready for more Hunger Games love?
Yesterday, we shared some of our favorite handmade Hunger Games gift ideas. Today, we have a round-up of some great recipes, crafts, and cool stuff inspired by the trilogy. I love the thought and creativity that went into all these projects, which show a real love and appreciation for the books. Perhaps you'll find some ideas to help you get ready for the big movie day next week!
Hunger Games Food & Recipes
Fictional Food always writes such tasty and thorough recipes that blend their love for books with their love for culinary delights! Some of the best Hunger Games recipes I've seen are linked below. I also liked the Chicken with Creamy Orange Sauce from Katniss' lunch with Cinna, lthough apparently you should avoid the pale purple melon.

From other sources, you can also find the recipes for Honey-Vanilla Pudding and Hearty Raisin & Nut Granola Bread, or even vote on your favorite recipe in the San Jose Mercury News' Hunger Games Recipe Contest! I think I'm going to have to try out that broth that tastes like springtime.
Hunger Games Crafts & Tutorials
There have been so many great craft projects inspired by The Hunger Games, too. Take a look at some of the beautiful work below, some of which have tutorials so you can make your own keepsake.

And if you planned to get all dolled up for the movie's opening day, maybe you'd like to pay homage to Katniss by emulating her hairstyle or creating fiery nails!

And last but not least, you may have seen photos from this beautiful HG wedding shoot that I posted on Pinterest last week. I love that the cake and food is not just the cover artwork.
Hope you've enjoyed browsing these Hunger Games-inspired projects. Have you made or purchased anything HG-related? Are you going to the midnight show next week? I can't believe that opening day is finally drawing near. The wait is almost over, fellow fans!

Those all look amazing ...love the stamped cookies
ReplyDeleteI had actually been salivating over the message cookie kit the blogger used to create that for a long time--and I finally bought one after seeing those cookies!
DeleteI want my nails like that!!!!
ReplyDeleteAren't they cool? They're very dramatic, but without going over the top. If you click on the link, there's another photo where she did her thumb with a different design.
DeleteLoving THG-related posts! I wasn't really planning anything special for the release, but now I'm inspired. :) If nothing else, I'll be sneaking in THG cookies! :P
ReplyDeleteHee, thanks! Cookies sound good to me...and I will at least be wearing a mockingjay pin to the movie. :)
DeleteOMG! Those cookies and cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteIII know! I have gained 10 pounds just looking at the photos.
DeleteI love all these fun ideas! I totally want my nails like that. I would probably have the best luck with the cupcakes though, I used to be a cake decorator;) I am so excited to see this movie!!!
ReplyDeleteOoo! I tried to take a cake decorating class once, Rebecca, but it didn't end up working out. I would love to do it someday, though, especially if I could make stuff like this. :)
DeleteYum! The sugar cookies and cupcakes! I need to buy my tickets. I want to go to the Arclight so I can just pick my seat & show up. No waiting in line! :)
ReplyDeleteI bought my Arclight tickets already, Rachel! Best place to see a movie. Period. :)
DeleteCUPCAKES! *reachie hands* these look amazing! If only I was crafty and talented, I would make something for THG! Instead I'll just sit on my hands while waiting for the movie. EEE. :)
ReplyDeleteHee hee! Cupcake fever AND Hunger Games fever are sweeping the blogosphere. :) Can't wait to compare notes with everybody after seeing it.
DeleteThe cookies and cupcakes look awesome! But could you imagine if they had Greasy's recipes from the Hob. UGH!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Hah, I'd rather not imagine that, thank you. I bet somebody out there probably did try to make something from Greasy's though. ;)
DeleteI want all these things. Well, except maybe some of the food. What would someone even do with an embroidery of the arena? Hmph. My brother and one of his exes made my sisters and I each a bunch of those see-through magnets with little things we like in them. I love them to bits. I bet HG ones would be fantastic. Can't wait for the midnight showing!
ReplyDeleteUm, you would hang the beautiful, intricate embroidery on your wall and admire it, of course! Or you would give it to your friend, who would clearly appreciate it more than you would. :D
DeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE the stamped cookies. Real or Not Real, that breaks my heart every time. I love the nails, cupcakes, oh hell I love all of it. Only 9 days until the midnight showing. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteShellie @ Creative Reads
I got that stamped message cookie kit! I can't wait to try it out. It's so fun to see how much excitement is building for this film. :)
DeleteNow I'm craving cupcakes. Like, really badly. Wasn't it enough that I read Scorpio Races yesterday and was salivating after those delicious november cakes?
ReplyDeleteI might check out how to make my own mockingjay pin. I would love to have one, but I'm not exactly good at making crafts ;).
Love those Hunger Games inspired posts, Wendy!
I think Maggie posted the recipe for those November cakes on her blog, Janina. :) Good luck with the pin--if you make it, I hope you post photos!
DeleteIt's so nice, I didn't know there were so many things. I really need to read the book lol but I'll definitely see the movie.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness--as far as I'm concerned, the movie is optional, but the book is NOT! Hah. Hope you get a chance to read them sometime, Melliane--the first book in particular is really great.
DeleteWow!! All of that stuff is awesome! I love those cupcakes. I did the Katniss braid in my daughters hair a few weeks ago. My hair isn't long enough. I love the nail polish. I did mine like fire, but they don't look that cool.
ReplyDeleteMy hair never does anything it's supposed to, so the Katniss braid is sadly out of the question for me, too. I love the look, though. :)
DeleteAnother HG related post? You are fuelling my excitement for the movie! :D
ReplyDeleteI love the look of those cookies and cupcakes. Though I wouldn't be able to eat them - they are too pretty to destroy! :)
*throws kindling on the fire of Sam's HG excitement*
DeleteAs I keep telling you, though, Sam...NOTHING is too pretty to be eaten. :D
Oh my gosh, this has to be the BEST POST EVER! They make my cupcake-making skills look mediocre, but that's okay because they're so pretty to look at LOL! x) And to think I already thought I was excited for this movie -- all those items remind me that I'm not the only huge Hunger Games fan!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to see the movie on opening night with my cousin! I think she's getting us Mockingjay pins so we don't stand out amongst all the other HG fans that line up two hours early for the premiere LOL! ;) <3
Thanks so much for sharing these cool HG things, Wendy! I'm super excited!! :)
Aw, yay for cousins bearing mockingjay pins! That's awesome that you're making an outing of it, I already bought my tickets, too. :)
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by, Miss Valentine!
Oooh, Wendy! I can't wait to see the surprise you have in store. I bet it's gonna be awesome. And you know where I could find a groom because now I totally want to have a HG wedding.
ReplyDeleteYou are totally building my excitement for the movie. I already have my tickets to the midnight show! Then I'm gonna watch it again the next day at a drive in movie theatre! I'm so pumped!
Heh, I just want to attend a Hunger Games wedding myself. I think I'd feel too self-conscious to tote around a bow and arrow on the big deal. Erm, and I'm already married. :D
DeleteFingers crossed this HG surprise goes well. That's so awesome you are seeing it at a drive in, Missie! AND the midnight show, hah! We will probably break Twitter and GoodReads the following day with all the HG chatter.
OMG THE CUPCAKES!!!! <3
ReplyDeleteIII KNOW.
DeleteLove the cupcakes & nails especially!
ReplyDelete- Jessica @ Book Sake
I might be able to make those cupcakes, but there's no way I could do those nails, hah. ;)
DeleteOkay this is the coolest post ever!! I want to make Hunger Games cupcakes :D
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and thanks for stopping by!!
Thanks Sarah! I could happily eat HG cupcakes all day. :)
DeleteWow! Tons of awesome stuff that I WANT! I really want those awesome nails! And those cupcakes are making me HUNGRY!
ReplyDeleteI want pretty much everything on this post too, Candace. It's pretty handy to have a blog post that also serves as a shopping list. ;)
DeleteThe food and the cake looks sumptuous and amazing! I want! :D Very cool post, Wendy. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah! :D
DeleteUh, wow? The cookies and the cupcakes are AMAZING! And the embroidery! And! Uh, seriously. WOW.
ReplyDeleteThe goats cheese and apple tarts? I am literally salivating.
I know, I think I want to try and make those tarts sometime. They sound delicious!
DeleteSuch a fabulous post Wendy, those cupcakes and tarts look scrummy! (I don't even know if that is a word, but that's how they're making me feel! :)
ReplyDeleteI vote we make "scrummy" a word even if it isn't! I like it. :) Thanks Jasprit!
DeleteThose tarts look awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a seriously fantastic wedding layout! And what a great way to wear your hair for your wedding. I love it.
FAB cake.
I wish I could do my hair like that. *sigh* I'd love to attend a wedding like that as guest, but I'm not sure I'd actually do it myself. (If I were to do it again, that is...)
DeleteLook at those CUPCAKES and NAILS!!!!! OMG! AMAZING POST, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS Sagacity! :)
DeleteThose cupcakes! Those apple tarts! Those food look savory! I cant wait for the movie, some of the clips online are great.
ReplyDeleteBelated thanks to you, Rachel! :)

ReplyDeleteJust putting it out into the ether - you saved the day with the stamped cookie post. My 13yo needed a food to bring to class next week for a book report (The Lovely Bones) and all I could think of was baby back ribs...ick.
ReplyDeleteWe can work with the cookies, and it'll be ever so much neater.
Thanks for that.
Aw, yay! I'm so glad the post saved that project for your son. And wow, 13 year olds are reading LOVELY BONES? That's pretty amazing. What did you put on the cookies, out of curiosity?
