Recipes & Crafts Inspired by The Hunger Games!

Ready for more Hunger Games love?

Yesterday, we shared some of our favorite handmade Hunger Games gift ideas. Today, we have a round-up of some great recipes, crafts, and cool stuff inspired by the trilogy. I love the thought and creativity that went into all these projects, which show a real love and appreciation for the books. Perhaps you'll find some ideas to help you get ready for the big movie day next week!

Hunger Games Food & Recipes

Fictional Food always writes such tasty and thorough recipes that blend their love for books with their love for culinary delights! Some of the best Hunger Games recipes I've seen are linked below. I also liked the Chicken with Creamy Orange Sauce from Katniss' lunch with Cinna, lthough apparently you should avoid the pale purple melon.

From other sources, you can also find the recipes for Honey-Vanilla Pudding and Hearty Raisin & Nut Granola Bread, or even vote on your favorite recipe in the San Jose Mercury News' Hunger Games Recipe Contest! I think I'm going to have to try out that broth that tastes like springtime.

Hunger Games Crafts & Tutorials

There have been so many great craft projects inspired by The Hunger Games, too. Take a look at some of the beautiful work below, some of which have tutorials so you can make your own keepsake.

And if you planned to get all dolled up for the movie's opening day, maybe you'd like to pay homage to Katniss by emulating her hairstyle or creating fiery nails!

I also love the idea of Cinna's Skyliner, as pictured in these teaser campaigns below. It's unclear if it's actually a product that will be available for sale, but the Lionsgate ad is pretty cool. And it's easy enough to find gold liner online and in stores if you want to get the look.

Anyway, it's always so fun to see the creative ways that people pay tribute (heh, tribute) to their favorite books. I am going to try and whip up a little Hunger Games surprise for a friend of mine in the next week or so. If all goes well, I'll post photos here on the blog.

And last but not least, you may have seen photos from this beautiful HG wedding shoot that I posted on Pinterest last week. I love that the cake and food is not just the cover artwork.

Hope you've enjoyed browsing these Hunger Games-inspired projects. Have you made or purchased anything HG-related? Are you going to the midnight show next week? I can't believe that opening day is finally drawing near. The wait is almost over, fellow fans!

    1. Aren't they cool? They're very dramatic, but without going over the top. If you click on the link, there's another photo where she did her thumb with a different design.

  3. Loving THG-related posts! I wasn't really planning anything special for the release, but now I'm inspired. :) If nothing else, I'll be sneaking in THG cookies! :P

    1. Ooo! I tried to take a cake decorating class once, Rebecca, but it didn't end up working out. I would love to do it someday, though, especially if I could make stuff like this. :)

  8. The cookies and cupcakes look awesome! But could you imagine if they had Greasy's recipes from the Hob. UGH!!
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hah, I'd rather not imagine that, thank you. I bet somebody out there probably did try to make something from Greasy's though. ;)

  9. I want all these things. Well, except maybe some of the food. What would someone even do with an embroidery of the arena? Hmph. My brother and one of his exes made my sisters and I each a bunch of those see-through magnets with little things we like in them. I love them to bits. I bet HG ones would be fantastic. Can't wait for the midnight showing!

    1. Um, you would hang the beautiful, intricate embroidery on your wall and admire it, of course! Or you would give it to your friend, who would clearly appreciate it more than you would. :D

  11. Now I'm craving cupcakes. Like, really badly. Wasn't it enough that I read Scorpio Races yesterday and was salivating after those delicious november cakes?
I might check out how to make my own mockingjay pin. I would love to have one, but I'm not exactly good at making crafts ;).

Love those Hunger Games inspired posts, Wendy!

    1. Oh my goodness--as far as I'm concerned, the movie is optional, but the book is NOT! Hah. Hope you get a chance to read them sometime, Melliane--the first book in particular is really great.

  13. Wow!! All of that stuff is awesome! I love those cupcakes. I did the Katniss braid in my daughters hair a few weeks ago. My hair isn't long enough. I love the nail polish. I did mine like fire, but they don't look that cool.

    1. My hair never does anything it's supposed to, so the Katniss braid is sadly out of the question for me, too. I love the look, though. :)

  15. Oh my gosh, this has to be the BEST POST EVER! They make my cupcake-making skills look mediocre, but that's okay because they're so pretty to look at LOL! x) And to think I already thought I was excited for this movie -- all those items remind me that I'm not the only huge Hunger Games fan!

I'm going to see the movie on opening night with my cousin! I think she's getting us Mockingjay pins so we don't stand out amongst all the other HG fans that line up two hours early for the premiere LOL! ;) <3

Thanks so much for sharing these cool HG things, Wendy! I'm super excited!! :)

    1. Heh, I just want to attend a Hunger Games wedding myself. I think I'd feel too self-conscious to tote around a bow and arrow on the big deal. Erm, and I'm already married. :D

Fingers crossed this HG surprise goes well. That's so awesome you are seeing it at a drive in, Missie! AND the midnight show, hah! We will probably break Twitter and GoodReads the following day with all the HG chatter.

  27. Just putting it out into the ether - you saved the day with the stamped cookie post. My 13yo needed a food to bring to class next week for a book report (The Lovely Bones) and all I could think of was baby back ribs...ick.
We can work with the cookies, and it'll be ever so much neater.
    Thanks for that.
