giveaway alert: Jessica Therrien’s Oppression!

March 15, 2012 2012, giveaway, indie author, Wendy 75

I recently came across a beautiful cover with an intriguing synopsis. Have you seen Jessica Therrien’s new book Oppression? It’s the first book in her Children of the God series.

Oppression by Jessica Therrien

Synopsis:  Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She’s been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than the average person, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she’s closer to eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal. For Elyse, these things don’t make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she’s been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability. Or so she thinks.

Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning–and she’s not entirely willing to play by their rules.

Honestly? I think I would read more. I would travel around the world too, for sure. Then maybe during the last 50 years or so settle down somewhere but I’d want to be on the move the rest of the time, living, learning and loving.

  2. Teresa

If mine was five times as long i would go everywhere on the globe and do everything on my bucket list :)

  3. Lexie@BookBug

So many things!! I would travel (everywhere!), I would become a Doctor and then volunteer for the Red Cross, have tons of kids, write a novel (or 10!), and read every book ever written!!

  4. Lilian

Five times as long…finally, a good opportunity to go to med school or law school and not feel severe depression when I graduate as a old person…

Assuming I stll have youth and I am not bedridde, I would love to try my hand at gymnastics, and maybe being a standup comedian…I am deluded into think I am super hilarious.

Having at least 400 years to live (if you die naturally) sounds sort of lonely to me. But if I were subtract such potential badness, I think I’d take a bunch of classes and try to learn at least seven languages.

  6. Heather@The Flyleaf Review

I think everyone says they would travel, and I would too, but I would also READ! There are so many books you’ll never have time to read, imagine if you DID have time! Great giveaway, thank you:)

  7. Kelly

I would use that time to travel the world & learn, learn, learn! Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. Kris-10

I would want to travel EVERYWHERE!!! And meet bunches of people from different cultures! And I’d want to try to help others in all differnt places! I would also read TONS of books! :))

    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  9. KM

Answer to the question: I would travel ALL OVER! I would also have a much cleaner house.

Thanks so much for the giveaway! :)

  10. Emily

I would travel everywhere. I’d learn how to speak all the languages I’ve ever wanted to learn. I’d read all the books I could fit into that time. But I’d also try to enjoy the time and not waste it. To spend it with the people that I love.

  11. Melliane

Good question, I think I would love to have some time for me. To travel a little and well to learn a lot of things. I would be awesome to have the time to learn whatever we want.

  12. rocksann

I would travel more. Stay & live in different places. Take more time to learn new things (playing an instrument, new language, paint, etc.)

  13. Bonnie Regan

Wow… what a thought. If my life was 5 times longer I think I’d be able to relax more. Life seems too far short as it is and it’s always a struggle trying to do everything you want to do. I’d be able to have more time to travel, to READ, and to just live. :)

  14. Sarah (saz101)

Oh my goodness… if my life were five times as long? I’d read, I’d travel, I’d learn another language and then read some more! I’d get VERY existential angsty… Also, can you imagine being a toddler for, like, a decade? She’d be fifty and still look like a ten year old! :O

This sounds AMAZING. I LOVE the premise, and THE COVER! IT BE PRETTY!

  15. REBECCA@ReadingWishes

If I lived 5 times longer than the usual, I’d make sure I got to do everything I had ever dreamed of! I’d love to travel and visit my book blogger friends from all over the world! And SO much more!

  16. Gabbie

I would create goals that had to be completed by a certain time – like building something extravagant. I’d have a bucket list 5 times longer than the usual 100. I’d travel the world and start a collection of all the memories. And I’d write a book of all my adventures.

  17. LK

5 times as long eh? Like the others already mentioned, I would read/travel more! I would also be more adventurous in the things I do instead of choosing to play safe like 90% of the time like I do now.

Another thing would be taking up fine arts. I’m currently doing Multimedia Design and I don’t think I would have time to really study fine arts in this lifetime.

  18. ashelynn hetland

My first thought was “DO ALL THE ILLEGAL THINGS.” but everybody else is like “languages!” “travel!” “reading more!” and I’m like “MWAHAHA! EVIL THINGS!”

I don’t know what this says about me.

    thanks for the giveaway! :)

  19. Lis

I’d read all the books I want! lol!
That’s the best way to live a long time!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. Patsy

I would try to bring happiness to as many as I could. I would travel to many places as I could and share a new found power with any one that needed it.

  21. Missie, The Unread Reader

If I knew my life would be 5 times longer, I wouldn’t worry about getting so behind on my TBR. And I’d try to travel all over the place, and I’d spend one life time over indulging and one being vagrant.

  22. A. Knight

*happy sigh* I never get tired of reading books with Greek mythology. They’re just so much fun, and I like the idea of a twist in which perhaps the Greek gods weren’t actually ever gods. I’ve always wondered about that :)

    Awesome Giveaway! :)

Take advantage of that time with the people I love, Read as much as possible & Enjoy all I can!

    Thank you! SO much!

What a great contest! :) Thank you so much for hosting this! I have not seen this book anywhere before, but it definitely sounds and looks fabulous! Aging five times slower.. I can see how this might be very problematic, especially when you need to watch everyone you love fade away, while you yourself barely change at all!

Sounds like a truly original and compelling read! :)

What would I do if I was aging 5 times slower? I would try to use my time wisely – I would definitely be happy to read more amazing books! I would travel more, explore new places, learn few languages (Korean would be awesome, since my husband is Korean and so far I’ve only picked up a few words and phrases, mostly swear words LOL). I would definitely dedicate more time to my family, too. There’s so much I could do with my time.. wow! It would be kind of awesome, but pretty scary at the same time!

    Great question, fabulous contest! <3

  25. Erin

If I could age that slowly, I’d learn to play the guitar and join an indy rock band :), live in as many countries as possible and learn all of the back-road places with all the good food that only locals know, read to my hearts’ content, and rethink the tattoo I have planned for this summer (it was hard enough to decide I could live with something permanently on my skin for a normal life time, let alone a super-extended one. lol)

  26. ZaraAlexis

Harvest my own vineyard, open a book store, create and lead a literacy program, read, write, travel, learn different languages, and help those in need: the poor, the marginalized, advocate justice against racism, ageism, sexism.

  27. Zoe Hazendonk

Hmmm. I would most likely do everything I want to do eventually now in my normal life. Which include becoming a Surgical Vet Nurse.
Getting to interact with as many animals as possible like hugging a tiger cub and swimming with dolphins.
Travel to several countries but live there long enough so that I can get to be a part of the community and not just as a tourist.
And of course read books on the side when not busy.

  28. Aneeqah

I would use the time to obviously, read! And, travel around the world, try new things, and help out the less fortunate. =)

  29. Savannah Valdez

Well, first off, I would definitely read more books! I would travel the world! And I would do my best to help others along my journey :)

  30. Vivien

Learn every language I could! I would definitely travel….everywhere. There are so many places I need to see. Then, I would prepare for the apocalypse. Being alive that long, there’s bound to be one eventually!

  31. Sam

Good question! I have no idea what I would do but I guess living that long would give me time to tackle the TBR pile. ;) Though I would love to trick someone into giving me the money to travel all over the world. I could visit every country in that time. :D

  32. MollyMcB

I would travel the world, take the time to educate myself on what interests me, become a total hedonist and of course I will have plenty of time to read!!

  33. Freak-YA-tastic

What would I do? Difficult to say.
I would probably travel like someone already said. I would also try different things (sports, work…) and don’t stay at the same place for too long. There’re so much to discover in the world!

Great giveaway and I can’t wait to read this novel so if I could win… It would be just fabulous! ;)

    Good luck everybody!

  34. Heidi

Um…read? I know this sounds super cheesy, but sometimes I honestly freak out about all of the books I’ll never have time to read in my life. Also, I would travel, and try to experience as many cultures as possible.

  35. Agnieszka Nashi

Well, I wouldn’t have to worry about my studies so much, and I would go on various scholarship around the world. Silly wishes, but it would be my biggest dream coming true! ;)

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  36. Mimi Valentine

Us and our love for books with beautiful covers and intriguing summaries! x) <3 This book sounds so amazing, Wendy! I've always had a weakness for books that revolve around Greek gods, so all the buzz for Oppression is making me really excited to get my hands on it! This is so sweet of Jessica to be offering up a copy! :)

And I don’t know what I’d do if I lived five times longer than everyone else, but I know it would probably include a lot of reading and as little brooding as possible! ;) (Have you noticed that most immortals in books tend to be very broody? LOL!)

Thanks so much for the amazing giveaway! :) <3

  37. Daisy

The obvious answer: read ALL the books on my TBR list ;) But I would also travel the world and I’d set up a study researching cancer, HIV and Alzheimer, cause I think something like that can only be cured in the long run.
Thanks so much for the giveaway!!

  38. Amy

This book sounds really good. If I knew I would live that long, I would want to travel everywhere. It would probably be a goal of mine to visit every country. I would also get a ton of reading done. Of course that is assuming I had infinite wealth too, otherwise it would just be a long life of more work and trying to manage my time lol!!

  39. Ashleigh

I’ve only vaguely heard of Oppression before, but it sounds like fun!

If I could live five times longer, I would read and write even more! That’s exactly why I want to live longer.

  40. Carl

5 times as long, I’d do a lot of traveling too, maybe settle down for a while in different places, get to know the language and culture. Hey, maybe I’d finally have time to read all the great books ever written. That would be cool.

  41. Debbie

I would travel the world, read as much as I wanted and probably try to learn several different languages. I would really like to learn Italian :)

  42. Candace

If I knew I would have a SUPER long life I would travel every corner of the earth and see EVERYTHING!
    Thanks for the giveaway!
